Finding reference photos for paintings SUCKS! So from now own I'm taking and editing my own. I've often had ideas get tossed out because I couldn't find the right references or I'd end up getting too influenced but what I was seeing so it would ruin the original idea. So this was my first attempt at using my own.

Got off work, sat down and watched your video. Thank you, I enjoyed it and I found it relaxing. My favorite thing is watching someone’s creative process whether it’s painting, building, repairing, restoring, or a combination.

Thanks, Don! I agree and enjoy watching the process of others on here which is why I'll be spending more time doing the same 😀

I’m a self taught music producer, songwriter, composer, photographer, videographer, and I’ve been feeling called to try painting one day but thought it may take too long to devote to. Watching this makes it feel INCREDIBLY accessible. Wow. You just helped to streamline unnecessary trial and error and show how doable it is to learn with these structures and methods. Thanks so much! 🙏

I would say it's the easiest thing to start with (it's hartd to get good at) but compared to the complexities of the other things you mentioned I think you'll enjoy it :)

@@DarrenNaylor absolutely! I think it’s also that your teaching style is very effective at simplifying while also being comprehensive. Much of what I learned for my others crafts were like chunks here and there that I eventually saw patterns in and learned from through trial and error because so much online learning could feel bland initially. Your presentation was great at keeping interest in what’s foundational while showcasing an awesome painting! You have a knack for storytelling and teaching, making learning fun.

Beautifully made video - so many takes. Love the bit about the stare and lip-biting. Some people in the art community would complain that the painting stereotypes young people as mindless dreamers unaware of their and others' interests, and might ask " why don't you speak with some younger people and collaborate with them in community project to feel out their anxieties" etc. But I guess you wanted to make a painting that freezes a point at which a decision could go either way, right? I wonder if you've considered a projector for efficiency? Your concept is what carries your day, so why not cut the unnecessary fat?

I really appreciate that! I actually have another video where I compare a projector to grid method. I think it works great for small to mid sized things. I’m all for them since they can free up more painting time 😁
