Very true. Sometimes you get so discouraged 🫤 but well because you love what you do. You have to keep going.

Amazing video motivating and uplifting going through this slow period right now I prefer KZbin and long form content too great video thank you.

I've been talking about it for - YEARS - now I just started to really try to have decent content, but trying to improve but on a budget. I don't have super flair, I just want to share past and future travels and ultimately make some extra money. I've been on TikTok and it's annoying because the creators I enjoy will share a live, then get shut off for a random lame issue that the bot misidentified. I love Shorts, but I am learning to do the long form too while using free apps, learning, improving and gaining subscribers. I've been at 25...to 35 for the past 2 weeks and even with "advertising" on the other platforms - people don't subscribe. Anyone that asks me - I subscribe and circle back and try to see their content as well. Thanks for the video.

I completely agree that there is something about KZbin that is special and allows for creators to just he themselves. And that your audience eventually follows you. This was a really inspiring video. I appreciate your genuine honesty and your story.

48 subscribers now and I’m encouraged and thrilled by every single new one even though it’s a slow growth process, you’re exactly right! I’m doing it to share my passion not just for views or likes but rather a creative outlet but it is nice to see it reaching people. I purposely didn’t watch anyone in my “niche” because I don’t really have one other than Halloween lovers like me lol but grateful for videos like yours and all the encouraging comments - I am excited to keep the journey going daily - thank you! 🙏🏼 🎃 💜

🌺Yup, that video brought me to your channel and had me subscribe so quick! Fellow artist here and so fed up with the 'performance' and 'guaranteed success when you follow these simple steps' type crap 😕. So, I'm here to stay and my channel is somewhat similar. Art is my main thing, but I do like to talk KZbin and share my social media journey (just starting to implement that in my videos) and it's honestly so refreshing to see so many other people in the comments coming from the same point of view, struggles and aspirations for their own channels. All I want to do is create a community of people who can talk to each other, encourage one another, give advice without asking to join their course to get full access to stuff. Let's just be humans for goodness sakes!! 🌼💛💜

This so resonates with me. I'm a painting artist too, and have been researching and experimenting. Trying to understand what makes KZbin tick and how people respond to it. But...BUT...the last thing I want to do is please the algorithm and create out of compulsion vs passion. Paintings can indeed take weeks or months...but not posting in between isn't working well either. So, currently making videos that still fall within the art niche, but trying to broaden my horizon, speak to multiple types of people that might visit my channel, but still talking and creating things I like to do, not that KZbin wants me to do. Best of luck with your channel, seems like it's taking off, well done!!

I’m one of those KZbin OG’s that have been here since it began, my channel is almost 20 years old. I had success way back then, even had an indie film come out as a spin-off, then I just got busy and walked away from KZbin for 10-15 years. I’m back now trying to do a reboot and, though it’s hard, I’m looking forward to getting the ball rolling. Success and monetization would be great, but in my late 30’s my priority, in my heart, is just telling the story and letting my creativity flow. Only problem I have right now is, my Shorts are taking over… like I get hardly any longform views, but my Shorts blow up. Hard to complain about any success, but I feel like nobody will see my long forms when I really start putting out the important ones I care about and poured a lot of energy into. Definitely worried.

Just created one my self, just filming what I was already doing as a hobby. Was hard to speak on camera but after editing it’s come out ok. Not sure how it will go but happy I did it even if it’s just for me.

But what if I have a disability that everyone turns their nose up at? I have a tremor and facial ticks that are very… disturbing. No one wants to watch that. I do, however, have a decent voice. I’d love to get a “following”, but you really need a certain amount of charisma to attract viewers. And without charisma you’re dead n the water.

This was really good. All your information was well presented and relevant, everything felt natural to camera and unscripted; like you just *know* all of this intuitively from your own experience. Edit, grade, lighting, presentation - all great. You're doing really well, keep it up :)

Dang... The majority of my 70+ videos on my primary channel have sub 50 views almost a decade later, and I've spent hours on all of them in editing and work and it feel super shitty...

@@DarrenNaylor it's called pointlessnerd, I do convention vlogs n stuff. Honestly looking back my oldest videos really aren't that good anyways, so I guess it makes sense, but it just feels like it's been the least reward for effort I've ever gotten for anything I've done in my whole life when it's the one thing I've enjoyed the most personally.

Hey man, I'm coming from that viral video and I wanted to say the reason why I enjoyed watching it and why I think it went viral is because everything you talked about was very relatable. The struggles of negativity/jelousy/envy on the short form platforms is something I think all of us face. I think if you include raw elements like this in your videos about your personal life and thoughts people will really be able to connect with that. I'm also a small youtube channel that wants to grow and the things you talked about were very motivational and inspiring for me. Anyways good luck with your channel, I'm subscribed and tuned in.

Great content and editing - funny, clever, and helpful! I thought I'd easily have the coveted 1k subs by June when I first started (lol). Well tomorrow is June 1st and I got humbled very quickly. It gets discouraging when you feel like you bring all the charm and useful content to the table with very little return, while newer channels keep popping up and surpass you by a landslide. So tired of seeing "I got monetized in 2 weeks!" videos giving the same empty advice pop up on my feed. But you're right - I'm just going to keep leaning into the unknown while I'm in it. I'm confident I'll find my way eventually!

Darren, I just subscribed. Following a long career running small businesses I have decided to pursue 2 passions: painting and KZbin! Hoping to promote my book alongside amusing videos. The book is entitled 52 Mistakes I have made in Business....so you DON'T have to! Just got to dive in and record...thanks for adding fuel to the engine....Gra

Great video and some really great points. Obviously it's resonating with other people as well since it's doing really well. Interesting point of how you don't get jealous of other people's success on YT vs IG - I definitely feel that as well. YT is just more fun and lower pressure. If you make a good video, eventually it'll find an audience.

Question: I had opened a youtube channel years back and never ended up uploading after 1 video. I now want to restart. For the algorithm does it make sense to delete and start afresh or just rebrand the old account and start uploading content there? Will it make a difference?

Really great video, Darren. I've found in the 2 years with my channel, there has been growth, style difference, etc. Recently though, like you talked about I'm creating very similar content every week which hasn't allowed me to expand audience or grow as a person/channel like I may want. Change is hard, especially when you think it may change the audience you're speaking to (art in my case) when I may want to talk about my 2 year journey as something new. Lots to consider, and maybe it's time to just do it.
