I will say alot of people who don't play ryze or have played him in the past but haven't taken the time get well adjusted, fall into a mentality that ult is useless by the fact it is very team reliant and soloq isn't the best for team coordination. And i think the best way to think of Ryze ult is as selfishly as you can, unless you have teamates by your side. It gives fantastic roam potential, solo flanking and getting out of sticky situations, like a free but short range shen ultimate.
