In 1991, as my country decided for democracy, to secede from the communist totalitarianism of Yugoslavia, Europe looked away. Not only did they look away, they helped the Serbian aggressor by imposing embargo on weapons, so that people were slaughtered, defenseless. Germany was the only EU country to report what's actually going on the ground, while western Europe, particularly France and UK were supporting the fascist regime of Serbia, not caring about democracy, wanting to preserve Yugoslavia at all costs. My father was in the front lines, cities were razed entirely, so many people lost their lives. Now they want to lecture us about democracy, when they're doing everything to deny the will of the people. People of Europe were never asked to be forced with "refugee" quotas, yet they're shoved down our throats. In fact, those few countries that opted for democratic approach and held referendums, they unequivocally said no to this mass migration. EU does not care, it pushes its' agenda. EU is anything but a bastion of democracy, it's become a vehicle of the globalists with loyalty to nobody, with responsibility to nobody. Democracy is just a catchphrase. There's no freedom of speech in EU, "hate speech" is a fascist tool to censor political opposition, declaring them "far/extreme right" and using it as a pretext to remove opposition and deny us our right to freedom of information. I'm afraid the politics is being dictated by people who paid nothing, and they're sacrificing our present and our future for their ambitions. Democracy is an afterthought, every opposition is declared undemocratic, competition is undemocratic to them.

I’m from Romania, i know that the EU isn’t perfect, and we all have to work to make it better, to improve it for the benefit of us all. I was at a very young age, when the communism fell in my country, in ‘89-90, but i remember vividly the 90’s, the struggle to save the young democracy that we had, our parents had to struggle everyday in those dire times. Somehow, Romania managed in 2007 to join the EU and our life improved since that day a thousandfold! We have to protect the EU against our enemy, and do not lie to yourself, our enemy is Russia and it always has been! My great-great-grandfather was shot and killed in the First World War. His son, my great-grandfather, was born in 1914 and never knew his father. In addition to a difficult life without a father, he fought in the Second World War and was a prisoner of war in Russia. He returned home after 10 years in a POW camp during which no one knew anything about him. His journey home was on foot. He drank water from rivers and ate tree bark to survive coming home. His son, my grandfather, grew up in the post-war period in what became the Eastern Bloc. He was forced to live under communism. His son, my father, lived his first 23 years under communism, without the right to freedom and not knowing the meaning of the word "democracy." The transition after 1989 was very difficult for him, as Romania changed completely after the fall of communism. I was born in a period of democracy, with full rights, in a time of transition, but now I consider myself a European citizen. I witnessed the societal changes starting with the EU accession in 2007. Now, my son was born into a world completely different from previous generations. I hope that the future for him continues on this upward path. If we look from generation to generation, the differences are not big, but if we look overall, it is incredible how much Romania has improved. The older generations had to fight in wars or in the streets during the Revolution. We just need to go and vote.

I strive to see some references to the military dictatorships of Spain (1936-1975), Portugal (1926-1974) and Greece (1967-1974) but it seems that for the gentlemen/ladies of the European Parliament, the only countries which suffered from dictatorships and imperial regimes were the ones that didn't belong to NATO. Cyprus as an example of a non democratic Crown state from 1925 up to 1960 is also absent. I am not protesting here. I am just laughing with the poor European Parliament, which, in an era of information overload, thinks that it can get away with some good old whitewash!... 🙂

States (nations) all over the world, are not the real holders of power anymore, through acquisitions and mergers, businesses have become multinationals. As a result they have eliminated competition, grown exponentially higher in power and revenue. Multinationals as they are today have grown more and more powerful in proportion to the state (Nation) and worker, thus turning those very same workers into modern day slaves. The average worker today works long hours for a non living wage. Profits of multinationals have not only risen but, have gone to the top of the pyramid, less to the worker, and less to the state in the form of taxes. Furthermore, the lack of competition has stifled innovation and our abilities to solve the many challenges we face. Corporations use Lobbying as a way to pursue their own interests, at the expense of the workers, consumers, and the environment. Lobbying has also helped increase corruption and made politicians more and more accountable to those same multinationals that lobby or pressure them, and less and less accountable to the interests and well-being of the people. Furthermore the identity of the person or society used to rest with its faith through religion, later on people were grouped together into separate nations based on similar cultures, race, or ethnicity. Now under capitalism the person's identity rests with where they work or what they do.

@@vegemarkr4582 I'm sorry. The thing is I hate articles critizising people who don't vote. If they don't want to vote they shouldn't vote if they live in a country where voting isn't mandatory. End of story. Also not every person in the world is interested in politics
@vegemarkr45827 ай бұрын
@@matiaspereira9382 not being interested in politics makes you accountable if something bad happens. In Germany we call people who weren't into politics during the nazi takeover "Mitläufer" basically followers who might not have agreed with the Nazis but didn't have the motivation to oppose them politically in any way. Those people are generally seen also at fault for the nazi regime as their apathy to politics made their crimes, consolidation of power, prosecution of political enemies and genocide easier. Remember, the Nazis were elected democratically. This is a lesson that many refuse to learn

@@vegemarkr4582I voted against my will last week. I didn't want to. Also the real problem isn't the people who don't vote. The real problem are the people who nominate the bad people. In my opinion people should stop nominating bad people
@vegemarkr45827 ай бұрын
@@matiaspereira9382 but people who nominate and vote for bad bad people get stronger if there are less people voting against them. If a democratic voter doesnt vote, it makes the vote of undemoctaic voters stronger. And also we dont controll who nominates the party representatives, we just dont. So its a problem we dont controll, so its not something we should concentrate on. What we can controll is how many of these "bad people" can get elected, by casting our votes against them. Voting is the strongest way we as the public can hold the political establishment accountable, if ya dont go vote it weakens our democracy, i have already seen people call the EU parliament undemocratic because not many voters participated in the election, its feeds undemocratic sentiment.

Why they only talk about the nazi and soviet states, but not the fascist dictartorships of Greece, Spain, Portugal and the british occupation of Cyprus? Maybe because they want to tell us that communism is the same with nazism? Why they don't talk about Yugoslavia, the place where many different cultures prospered without fighing each other. Why they dont tell about the bombing of Yugolavia where most of the EU states back then helped America to obliterate Yugoslavia by bombing it to oblivion. Why they dont talk about the concentration camps that were established in island Greece (the islands the Europeans love going to) after the civil war, where they sent former resistance members, because they were communists. Why the dont talk abour the numerous scandals that happen inside the European Parliament with the different lobbies around the world? I wish the people one day will reject this model and ask for the the true union of the european people.

You missed the point. it is not because of communism, but because of dictatorship. Greece, Portugal and Spain, under their respective dictatorial regimes, could never join the EU. They could only when the dictatorship was over. Scandals in the European Parliament could be investigated because of free media, which can never happen in the Russian Duma for instance. Democracy is not perfect. Still, it is better than dictatorships.

Since when Europarlament is about democracy?
@europeanparliament8 ай бұрын
The European Parliament has been a key institution in the European Union's democratic framework since its inception. It was first established in 1952 as the Common Assembly of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) and has since evolved into the directly elected legislative body representing the citizens of the EU. The Parliament's role in the EU's decision-making process has grown significantly over the years, reflecting the Union's commitment to democratic principles and ensuring that the voices of European citizens are heard at the European level. Thanks for voting in June!
