The budget at the end of October will take some wind out of car market sails!

Interest rates and astronomical APRs of 12% on finance deals are stopping a LOT of buyers. Customers just won’t stomach those sort of rates on used cars at higher price points.

I see very little turnover at the dealers of used cars in my region, The market has been fairly stagnant for over a year, though dealers' asking prices seem to have gone down very little during this time. It surprises me that there has been a rise in prices, generally, during September!

On BCA and a few auction sites my first month. Everything is mostly going for above CAP. Any dealer I spoke to before Sept said cars where going below CAP. Will be interesting to see if they stabalise now or go back down with all the EV's they registering this month to avoid the £15k fine. Nissan leaf's registered 24 going for £16-17k when rrp was £31k in Jan. Polestar & EX 30's look good value now down 20-25% new

I watched a live KZbin video feed from Shoreham Car Auctions not long back, with ex lease Tesla's being sold. Almost all of them were selling for above CAP book prices.... Dealers were snapping them up.

Yes the Leaf 3 is in the works I hear. My friend has two and still loves it. I prefer the MG4 as better tech and drive. I got a business lease deal £1.5k down and £132 pcm for 3 years. We can claim the VAT back so was a steal to dip my toe into the EV world. Have a passihaus with 16 solars and looking at getting 16 more and a battery so we can use the cheaper night tariffs .

Lies damn lies and statistics…a 1% increase in BEV sales…. But only after a 50% to 60% price fall… 🧐
@Brian-om2hh2 ай бұрын
New EV sales reached their 22% target last August, according to the SMMT, with sales of used EV's also up on this time last year. Where does your 1% come from? All cars deprecate. If you buy a new VW Golf 1.5 Tsi today, it'll be worth 45 to 50% of it's new cost in 3 years/36k miles. So not much difference there. Big executive ICE cars lose even more.... With a new EV, the best way is to *lease* it rather than buy it. That way, you side-step the worst of the depreciation... EV's make far better buys once used.

It's true. I've been watching the market keenly over the last couple of years, waiting for the right time to buy. Many of them have been going up the last few months. Nothing goes up forever, and nothing goes down forever. Each model will drop until it finds support at a price that folk are happy to buy them for. That support is far below what they "cost" new, but it is there. Anyone who thought they would just fall to zero because they don't like EVs is stupid, nearly as stupid as someone who actually buys a new EV, for cash, at list price (which is very few people btw).

Doesn't stop it being a great car, and one which is many folks choice as the best drivers EV, now available at a cracking price. Just make sure you get a proper JLR warranty. Approved used are giving 2 years warranty, 2 years jaguar assist, and a free smart home charger. Just bought a 2 year model for a third of the new price. What's not to like? If I've bought the bottom then I'll take that. One thing is for sure, it can't lose another £50k😅 😅😅

@Brian-om2hh2 ай бұрын
It may not have been the wisest move. Sales of new diesel cars have tanked, and now take just 6% of the market. Although by the time you want to sell it, you may find a ready buyer.... Good used diesels will become harder to find in the years ahead, with some car makers dropping them from their ranges. BMW and Volvo for example, no longer sell new diesel models in the UK.

When you say "nobody" you mean you, right? Along with all the other people who think everyone must be a carbon copy of themselves. Plenty of people want them, and plenty of people will grow to want one in time. Some people will never want one, which is fine, each to their own. The difference is I'm not here saying "everyone wants an EV", because it's an equally stupid comment to make.

@@colliehouse3133 This is because they have relied on diesel engines in their cars for years. No one buys diesel cars now. To little to late with EV development and they've been caught with their pants down. Other manufacturers are doing evs better and cheaper. Unfortunately some of these legacy car makers will go bump over the next few years. No business model lasts forever.
