USED Hangkai 3.5 HP First Start & Test Run

Today we are testing this used Hangkai 3.5 HP outboard that we got for FREE from one of our friend's neighbor. We are going to start it for the first time and see how fast she can go on one of our dinghies.
**DO NOT RUN THIS MOTOR OUT OF THE WATER. IT DOES HAVE AN IMPELLER, WE ARE JUST IDIOTS**

Don't run these out of the water. They do have some form of water cooling system.

I took one apart they have an impeller, but only water cooled exhaust so its not that important

👍 осенью в конце сезона купил такой для каноэ, заводил только в бочке с водой. На днях также буду обкатывать. Сменил сразу масло в редукторе ( было с металлическими опилками с завода) , пошкурил крыльчатку охлаждения для лучшего хода и купил хорошую свечу. Поменяю после обкатки.

I think they meant off is the position for choke, as in put it there if boat is off. I find a squirt of starter fluid to be easier than messing with the choke.

I don't know what is going on with hangkai as I can't even find anymore outboards above the 3.5hp 2 strokes as I want to get the 6.5hp model.

If I recall these did actually have a impeller, they have a weird air/watercooled. Plus if it didn't have watercooling it would be making that lower unit/leg very hot from the exhaust

Yeah we noticed it was pumping water once we actually got it in the water. The specs I looked up before filming this said it was air cooled, but now I've found Amazon listings that say it's "water air cooled" whatever that means. The water outlet is on the shaft so I wouldn't be surprised if it only cooled the exhaust system. The motor itself has air cooling fins on it. Either way, it definitely shouldn't be run out of the water.

What happened to your links every time I try to open they don’t seem to work it says error. Do you guys still put on videos last one I saw was the one of you buying the Costco $500 boat and you running it with a 4hp and 12 , and 18hp hankai motor I believe I can’t seem to get the links to buy the motor? Do you have a new website or link to purchase? Great video keep up the good work by the way. Thanks I’m looking into getting one small portable boat and a small motor never owned one looks exciting and fun. Love to fish for bass and trout and whatever o can catch.

That is a water cooled engine and did u check the lower end for gear oil thay dont come with oil from manufacturer

Mine gets me 4 mph on my pelican bass raider 10. My minn kota 50 gets me up to 3. This is with me (160 lbs) and my dog (70 lbs), and a little fishing gear.

Suggestion, dont use 50:1 premix. Use a 32:1 non premix. And let it warm up before cycling hard like this. Also break it in good. 25:1 is good break in mix with some marvel mystery oil to clean the carbon. This really is NOT an air cooled engine, its a partially water cooled engine and it does process water, it dribbles out of the box on the shaft.

Hi the exhaust comes from the exhaust port down under the engine then down the leg.

Hi, I have a 3.5 hp that ran for about 2 hours. The prop stopped turning. I have checked the clutch and all is good but I am for the life of me unable to remove alu. prop. have you any hints or tips please? Reply

We haven't had the chance to pull apart this motor yet, but plan on doing a full service on it soon. I think the impeller on ours might be shot causing it to overheat (maybe from running it out of the water in this video...oops). I'll let you know once we do it (if you haven't got it fixed yet) and a video should follow shortly after we get the job done.

Saw 3.5hp new and it's getting tempting because it's half the price of a 100 aH deep cycle battery and 86 pound electric trolling motor.

Don't buy the 3.5. Spend the extra for the 6.0 hp.

It's not air cooled. When we were given the motor we looked it up on Amazon (couldn't find an english owners manual online)and the listing incorrectly said this one was air cooled. The air cooled ones are the ones that look like weed whackers.

How fast did you get your 6 hp?

It really depends on the boat and how much weight is in it. With 1 person we could get on plane and do about 12 - 13 MPH. Once you start to add weight, it gets harder to get on plane and you're stuck around 6 - 7 MPH. We have a couple videos, you can check out to get a more detailed explanation and see what we tried to get more out of the 6.0 HP, but there isn't much more you can really get out of it. It is a 2 stroke so the engine oil is mixed into the fuel.

The water pump is located in the lower unit (foot) of the motor. You need to remove the lower unit to access it.
