I have a 2004 crf70. Ran only with choke on, so bought new carb from Honda. Put carb on and it won’t start. I’ve played with mixture screw and idle but it won’t fire. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Brandon I did a vid on my channel on just that. I talk about the pilot screw and your idle screw in the vid. But your idle screw should be only adjusted in when the motor is warm. Your pilot screw should screw all the way in then back it out I think 1-1/2 turns to two turns. Basically when it starts screw ot it in or out depending on the throttle response. You want a crisp throttle response. I show the steps in my others crf70 vid.

Yes I watched that one too. Anything else I could be doing wrong. 😜

If a motorcycle or ATV only runs with the choke on, it's because the richer “choke on” mixture is actually closer to the engine's normal operating fuel mixture than the leaner “choke off” mixture. So when the choke is turned off, the engine gets too little fuel and too much air for it to run and it stalls. Check for air leaks where the carb is connected to intake and air filter. I think memory serves me right you would turn IN the pilot screw to make it richer. And fine tune it when it’s running for the crisp throttle. Pull the plug and check it’s condition. Make sure it has a decent spark. If it doesn’t run at all check your on off switch. Only other thing it could be would be timing but I doubt it’s that complicated.

Did you have to replace the fuel petcock at any point? I recently took my 2004 CRF70 apart and the petcock was fried from sitting in bad gas.

I have not had to replace the petcock. Be sure you buy new gasket with the petcock. Cheers!

Yes indeed, I just got a 2003 xr70r for my wife and I had to change the petcock and the slow pilot jet, at first I thought I have to get a rebuild kit for the carburetor because it was leaking gasoline from the overflow, once I empty the gastank and removed the petcock, the plastic filter of the petcock was gone, so a lot of dirt and debris was going to the carburetor needle valve. So once I change all the parts, VOLA! like new!. I had to go through the hole bike, spokes, swing arm nut and all the bolts and nuts of the bike.

ive been looking for a 250cc 4 stroke for myself that needs some work cause my current bike no longer works well and is burning oil i have rebuilt my engine replaced my rings and done a bunch of work but it continues to burn oil

Full top end rebuild prob wouldn’t hurt then. Put a big bore kit in it to get more power out of it since your doing top end. Just remember would probably have to change jets in carb for new big bore. Lots of info out there. Good luck. Hope you get it sorted

Would you happen to know why my acceleration gets stuck ?

Cable could be binding or pinched somewhere on the frame. The slide inside the carb where the spring attaches could be installed wrong. Or it could be simply the throttle tube could be damaged/dirty or also installed wrong. I would start at the top and work your way down to the carb. Is the throttle cable oem?
