I was working on my sprinkler system, I’m new at this. I had an underground leak on both sides of the solenoid. Not knowing, I started cutting the pipe and had water spraying out and it wasn’t what was just left in the lines. A slight panic set in. 😬 No one ever showed me where the shut off valve to the sprinklers was, so I shut the water off at the street until I finally found the sprinkler shutoff. Of course the valve was stuck. Didn’t want to break the valve, so I started Googling and found your fantastic idea. So far I’ve made three or four little handy-dandy little tools for doing sprinklers. Thank you so much for your idea. 😊 You are a lifesaver!

Followed your instructions and made one! It works perfectly! I needed to shut off water to a part of my in ground sprinkler system but the access box was so tiny, i couldnt get any leverage at all! So frustrating. But your instructions were clear and orderly and helpful. Man it was so satisfying to show that valve who’s the boss. I felt super powered!

Excellent. BTW, there is an easier & cheaper way with no need for glue or small pieces. Use a 2ft piece of 1-1/4" or 1-1/2" PVC pipe and simply cut two 3/8" slits at the end using an oscillating or hack saw. Drill the top end of the slits using a 3/8" drill bit for a clean finished look. Then at the top, drill two 5/8" holes and slide a 1ft piece of pex to act as the Tee Handle. If you have the materials on hand, this should take no longer than 10 minutes to make with minimal cleanup.

Thank you for the video, very well spoken easy to understand. I have to make one for our pool. We use one of these t ball valves plastic for our water shut off to the pump and when I close it it's fine but when I go to open it it has all that pressure and it is very hard for me to turn it I'm afraid I'm going to break it. I see where I can buy one off of Amazon but I like your style I will just make one for the t ball valve that goes to our pump. Thanks again.

This is a great help. I have one sump pit in my home for the drain tile and the washing machine also dumps the dirty water into the sump pit as well. I have septic so my sump pump ejects up to a "Y" and has two 1-1/2 ball valves. One goes to the street for normal dewatering and the other towards the septic for when the washing machine is in use. Unfortunately this is code. My wife struggles with those stock handles and this is genius.. Thanks again for posting.

Nice job. So for a 2" pvc ball valve it's good using a 2" union??.
@DIYMyWay3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! If by union you mean coupler at the end of the shaft then a 2" ball valve might need something bigger than a 3/4" coupler to make the slotted end but probably not a 2" coupler. A 1" or 1.25" coupler would probably work. Thanks for watching!
@CarlaFoulds3 жыл бұрын
This is great, thanks! Is there anything I can do to add an extension rod or use a tool for a ball valve that's low to the ground that I have a hard time accessing? This won't work from up top since the valve is on the side of the pipe and I'd need an elbow on the end to be able to attach it... but then I wouldn't be able to turn it... I know I've seen something like it before, but I can't seem to find anything and don't want to overcomplicate it. Please help me think?!
@DIYMyWay3 жыл бұрын
Hi Carla! Depending on how much room you have to the side of the valve and swing room you have for the handle, the simplest thing that comes to mind is put a T on the end of the tool and cut 4 slot (a cross pattern) for the valve handle on each end of the T, but on one end of the T the 4 slots are rotated 45 degrees from the other end. This would give you a tool that sort like a box wrench. You place which ever end of the T on the valve handle that most easily fits over the handle and use it like a lever to partially open (or close) the valve, then flip to the other end of the T and use the offset slots to finish opening the valve. Hope this helps!

Or put a brass ball valve inline in the first place. Those pvc valves are your worst enemy in pvc piping.
@CannedHeat282 жыл бұрын
Agreed...unless you are piping a pool. Impractical just on a cost side...not to mention most brass valves aren't full port so you add restriction of flow at each one.

@@DIYMyWay Same type of valves only slightly bigger, 40mm used on a pool, your video is deceptive size wise but I had to put self drilling screws through the "T" and the the socket even after priming and glueing, for some reason they stiffen up with salt pool water and they almost break your wrist trying to turn it, obviously now, yours was made for smaller irrigation pipes but if you have time have a go, cheers from Australia,
