A life saver and very economical tester I have used in the UK is a Martindale mains tester which you plug in a mains socket at gigs etc before you plug your amp or gear and shows three different lights arrangements if there is any bad wiring, missing earth, crossed wires. Most countries have their own versions but believe me when I say how many bad plug sockets at gigs there are although getting better these days. Cost about £20 UK which can save your life. Amazon always have these for your country.

As someone that has owned at least one example of nearly every double locking tremolo made, I fully agree with the Gotoh suggestion.

I own a Hamer USA Californian that I love and was my first real quality guitar. They made them near my home here in the Chicago suburb of Arlington Heights Illinois. I contacted the owner of Schaller in Germany via email and sent pictures of my original Floyd Rose by Schaller that had Hamer stamped on it. My knife edge wore out and would not stay in tune. He sent me a new base plate and spare knife edges( they can be replaced) never knew that. Works like new again.

Best "Floyd" ever is the Ibanez Edge - I think the newer Gotohs are now very similar. Original Floyds are very clunky and primitive by comparison unfortunately.

6:14 @leontodd go with the German Original Floyd Rose. If that’s what’s currently installed, you could also just purchase new parts as well. 👍🏻

I really like the Gotoh 1996t Floyd Rose that came on my Suhr Modern. If it fits that would be a good way to go.

I have a 1996 Hamer Californian, I'd love that one you have too lol. I was thinking of swapping the tremolo to a Sophia tremolo, they definitely caught my attention. However I installed a bunch of Titanium Fu-tone parts with their Brass big block and can't find a reason to replace the tremolo now. The Fu-tone stuff definitely sorted out some issues with my tremolo and works flawlessly now, but still looking at that Sophia tremolo!

Gotta second that recommend of having an EQ pedal around. I recently picked up the Petrucci signature Dunlop Crybaby wah and while I love it so far, it didn't play nice with out-of-the-box settings with digital amp sims (but great through a physical amp). I could certainly make adjustments to the pedals built-in EQ to reign in the fequencies causing issues (certain frequencies "popping" and clipping when you "sweep" through them via the wah pedal) or the overall volume/gain output of the pedal, but instead of altering the pedals signature sound, I just threw my MXR 10-band EQ pedal after it and Bob's *My* Uncle lol. Seriously, other than the blindingly bright blue leds on the MXR EQ pedal (not sure what MXR was thinking there) it works awesomely and also lets me further shape the tone of the wah. Sooo many words... Sorry 'bout that. Cheers.

i'd say was finding the perfectly sized ABS style case for my IEM receiver + batteries that fits in the guitar bag nicely i don't know why but there's something horribly satisfying when you get a really perfectly sized solid/workable carry cases for your stuff =) those footswitch toppers look great otherwise, didn't know them, will drop them a line, looking for something for my Morningstar MC8

Gotoh 1996T is the best one out there unless you get the original or the Shaller.

Those are the exact models I would recommend as well. Suhr uses the 1996t and Tom Anderson uses the Schaller.

@leontodd Hello Leon, the Back to Zero CD arrived. It is amazing, fantastic songs and production. Question for you and Troy, please. I was told by a sound man that it is wise to place a DI box between a modeler and the FOH board. The rationale is that the DI box guards the modeler from phantom power. Out of caution, I have been placing a Countryman DI my Stomp and FOH. I am wondering is this step necessary or another guitar myth?

So glad it made it! I think stuff like the Helix and axe has phantom protection but you can never be too safe with nice gear

Sure but the Gotoh is better. Equipped with brass block from the beginning and steel with hardned Knife edges.
