Fun fact-during the Irish Famine, Abdulmejid I tried to donated £10,000 (£84,000 pounds today) to help the victims, but he was prevented from doing so by the British government because they didn't want him to donate more money than Queen Victoria did, so instead Abdulmejid donated £1000 plus 3-5 ships full of food.

The part of the chart shown at 6:18 is super inaccurate as it implies that Kosem Sultan was the mother of Osman II, when his mother was Mahfiruz Hatice Sultan and because it implies that Turhan Hatice Sultan was the mother of Suleyman II and Ahmed II when she was only Mehmed IV's mother.

@@prettysurelourd5703 actually their mothers were Haseki Sultan as well. Turhan was the the first Haseki, but other ones recieved more money from the Sultan because he liked them better, she had just given birth a few months earlier. During Ibrahim's reign he had 8 Haseki Sultans so, that is also when the title lost its special meaning. A few generations after the only way for a woman to have "Sultan" next to her name was to become Valide Sultan and instead of Haseki it reverted back to Hatun

Not meant as an offense: Your pronunciation (if you were to pronounce the names turkish, that is) is off. Aside from the fact that Turkish is spoken very differently than Arabic, the name Osmanoglu for example: the last g is not pronounced at all. It's just there so that the O before it is longer. The suffix is kind of like the Scandinavian suffix -son. So it means son, or child.
@mohdghazali34734 жыл бұрын
If we are going by Ottoman Turkish, it should sound more closely to Arabic. Ottoman Turk sound nothing like Modern Turk, Ottoman Turk was classified as Perso-Arabic not even Turk. Ottoman Turk was heavily influenced by Arabic and Persian with more than 88% of it's vocabulary, not to mention they adopted Arabic writing system. Modern Turk was based on "vulgar/raw Turk" used by lower class and common people of Ottoman. The Ottoman will not be happy with that pronounciation. Not to mentioned, both Arabic and Persian had a higher status than Ottoman Turk and both were teach to the rulling class. Another important note despite Turkish claim it's legacy and the Sultan admit it's Turkish lineage with Turkish culture play an important role in Ottoman identity, they never thought Ottoman as a Turkish nation or empire. For them Ottoman was a multiculture and diverse empire. They even had Jewish and Christian in the highest position second only to Sultan at one time, most of officer and rulling class came from diverse group of people from Kurd, Arab, Eqypt to Turk.

As a Turkish person when I saw this video I got super excited and wanted to watch the video immediately. But after 2 minutes I had to stop it, I feel sad and disappointed. Ottoman Empire is not a Arabic Empire the language spoken in Ottoman Empire was Turkish, the majority of the people spoke Turkish similar to today. But the narrator speaks with a different accent, sounds like arabic but i cant even tell which accent I only can say its not Turkish. For example the name Orhan is coming from a old turkic name. Why do I hear it with a different accent? If this channel post videos in English and reads names just the way they would in English, why there is an exception with this one? Just think about it, how would you feel if a channel who makes videos in English makes a video about British Monarchy Family video and the narrator of the video says the names with a French accent. You would be upset, just like we feel right now. As a Turkish speaker I feel disrespected. Was that really necessary?

Notably, important Sultans were glossed over, and some, not mentioned at all, such as Sultan Abdul Hamid II. There’s also a number of inaccuracies I believe, including attributing the correct titles to the Sultans, such as referencing Osman as Gazi instead of Bey. Finally, while the names are Arabic, I believe they should’ve been pronounced in Turkish, which is not difficult to do even for an Arabic speaker.

It's funny how we call them 'Sultans' now. But in reality they used to call themselves Shah or Khan.Just look at their Tughras. e.g. Sultan Süleyman called himself Süleymān-şāh b. Selīm-şāh Ḫān el-muẓaffer dāʾimā, which roughly translates to 'Suleyman Shah, son of Selim Shah the always victorious Khan'. And I kinda think thats a bit sad, cause it's changing the ottoman heritage of persian/turkic to a more arabic one.

Sultan Murad IV was famous for his anger he would go onto the street in disguise and personally kill someone if they did something againts the law. Scribers mention him killing a Janissary just because he wore his hat the wrong angle. As for the being controled by his Mother thing yes She did act on his behalf even after when he was of age but after some time he and Kosem fell out and She lost much of her power. If Murat wouldnt have died so young he would have banish her to a another city away from the court.

The pronunciations in the video are terrible. Turkish names are not pronounced like the Arabian names are. Plus, the reader pronounced most of the names wrong, for example, you have to pronounce the letter "Ü" in the name "Hürrem" like the same "U" sound in the word "Human", not like an incomprehensible Arabian sound.
@ajr12474 жыл бұрын
His pronunciation is accurate. FYI, this modern Turkish language did not even exist back then. Turkish words were pronounced pretty much like Arabic. Only during Atatütk, Turkish took a different route and became a completely different language. Luckily, no one in the world cares to learn Turkish and it is a useless language. Hopefully, in the near future, it will completely disappear.

@@fenerbahce3799 The thing is the name was documented in Arabic Letter and Ottoman was a large empire. It even include Mecca and Medina. No one here is saying the Turkish pronounciation was wrong but to called Arabic name as Arabized, seriously? Yes Turkish might called it with a Turkish pronounciation but the name documented in Arabic letter and Ottoman subject in Middle East including Arab Peninsular will used the proper Arabic pronounciaton. No, they wouldn't cause the English pronounciation was their way of saying it. This is important especially since the name originated in Arabic and you wouldn't be able to find the word in Turkish Dictionary, which mean it was okay to used the Arabic pronouncuation.
