I will have to disagree on the Tire Pressure Monitoring System. As a full timer, my TPMS has notified me of at least 5 slow&fast leaks (mostly nails). I was able to fix the issues BEFORE a blow out. The leaks were on both my RV and my toad.

Same here. Few years ago, I did my normal visual inspection and all looked good. Turned on TPMS and drove to dump station. Alarm went off and I almost ignored it but then after a thorough inspection, I found the nail in the tire. I was so thankful I caught it before taking off on 1+ hour drive home through forest and no cell service. And, I didn't suffer any of the typical damage to the RV you see when tires blow. There are plenty of Facebook and KZbin videos showing what blowouts can do. Of course, there will be the small amount of random immediate blowouts without warning, but for the most part they can easily be detected by TPMS before major damage is done.

Sound advice for travelers in Rv/vans/camping. We used to camp and the first time, I had way too much stuff I didn’t need. I learned only bare necessities. We did most all out cooking outside unless it was raining. We used paper plates, plastic forks, and paper towels. I did have silverware for four if needed. The less I had to wash the better. Mind you we were just camping a few days at a time. ❤❤❤❤

Great video. However, I have always used regular toilet paper and never had a problem. After emptying my tank, I refill it with some water, borax, and Dawn dishwashing detergent, which helps keep the tank clean. So far it has worked.

Agreed with most except solar. I have been full-timing in my 38 foot 5th wheel for over 8 years now. Rarely plugged in anywhere. LOVE my solar. Agree about running AC over 6 hours but that is what my portable generator is for. I did remove my RV AC roof units and had a mini split AC unit installed. It is so quiet and efficient! Safe travels to all!

Girl...living in a 30 ft RV for 2 years now..(with 2 great danes and 2 cats). your minimalist mentality is good and I agree with many of your suggestions. But sadly, most folks can't fathom it. The waste of expense on some of those big expenses..solar etc...I fully, 100% agree on. However, so much is lifestyle choice...My icemaker is worth its weight in GOLD! Your lifestyle..does not always transfer to others...That being said...best advice..just get used to getting rid of stuff you end up not using. FYI-those of us who moved from a stix and bricks into full time RVing..by choice or forced by the housing market...it takes a minute to get rid of stuff you held dear for decades. Clothes and shoes is the worst part.

You sound like me! I see so many comments on limited cargo carrying capacity but they are obese and think they need 7 chairs and a full set of dishes. Plus an instapot, baking sheets.... You are going to get hate about the toilet paper. I'm 72 and have owned rigs since my 20's. Never put tp in any of them. Never had black tank issues.

I know that you're still working, as many young people on the road are, and I'm wondering how, as a woman, you can pack for professional as well as recreational life.

This is a great question! The approach I use on the road is still one I use today (in a house). I have a very small "capsule" wardrobe for work. Most people aren't paying any attention to what you're wearing unless you are VERY dressed up or down. They wont remember a white collared shirt and a skirt and unless you're in a big office you don't see the same people every day. I certainly don't see my clients more than once a week. So I have three of the same dress in three colors and I invest in a great jacket. I rarely, if ever, even take the jacket off. I. have the same pair of shoes in two colors: nude and black heels. Outside of that I had 8 days of "lounging gear," underwear, socks, etc. Because I do laundry on the 7th day. I'd never need more than that. In reality, we all have our FAVORITE shirts/pants/etc. Living this way liberates you from needing to impress anyone. I never needed more than this. Today I have a huge walk-in closet. I still wear the same damn things because, they're my favorite.

I have pepper spray and a "real weapon", but I have to disagree with you on solar. Properly sized and installed solar is awesome! 😎 With it I can run a small AC fulltime (If it's sunny), along with my 12v fridge/freezer, TV, induction cooktop, blender, microwave, led lights, laptop, Maxxair fans, etc. The best part is I never have to plug in (Although I can).

How much did that cost you. Include all the panels, the batteries, the wiring, full install cost and the value of your time if you installed it as well. Please also include how long you can run that AC, specifically.

It's not been cheap, but I've done my best to keep the cost down by buying many items used or otherwise discounted. Full out retail cost of everything excluding my labor were probably around 10-12k, but I did not pay that much. Honestly there's not much of a labor difference between building a stand alone plugin AC/generator setup and one running on solar. As I built the entire system myself, I can't really offer a labor cost difference there. My AC draws less than 100ah off my 400ah+ of batteries running at night with no solar input. During the day in full sun it can run indefinitely as the panels produce more power than the AC consumes. I will say that I'm in very well insulated self build Promaster, so the AC/Solar requirements are quite different than what they would be in the average RV.

That's the best thing about solar! You start getting your money back right away. 😁I've been traveling for more than 5 years now with the same solar panels, inverter, wires, etc. Only upgraded the battery when the costs of Lithium cells became reasonable. Not having to pay for generator gas or hookups has easily saved me more than my initial costs, so any residual resale value is just icing on the cake. @@CaseyRoman

And you don't need to decorate every inch of your rv with useless doodads. I've seen people take hours to pack their decorative objects for travel. Hanging plants, pictures on the walls, statuary, etc. Things that weigh a ton and are useless. Travel souvenir magnets for your fridge, they are heavy when the door is covered. In my rig, everything needs to have multiple uses. No useless decorative things allowed. I'm a firm believer in the 1 fork, one cup rule. Visitors need to bring their own plate. I do love those slippers though.

Word! Given the cost of gas and misery of clutter, rv and vanlife should encourage beneficial minimalism (like that imposed by long distance hiking where you carry everything) but in reality people most often "pack their fears." Listen to the voice of experience.

Ok but not everyone is trying to simplify their life while traveling. We only travel part time in ours and I like having my stuff around me. That was the point for me to get a van, I was over being in and out of hotel rooms all the time and never having what I wanted to hand. I wanted to be able to go to places and have my house and things around me. We have just added a trailer to our van for DH to use as a mobile office (I can't listen to meetings for eight hours a day for five days at a time). It means we can travel and see things and he can do his job. Sometimes when he is working I can unhitch and go run errands or go see things and fill my time enjoying what is nearby but sometimes the van needs to be near DH and I am in one spot in bad weather and I like having stuff to do, my watercolors, cards, crochet etc. I like to be able to bake or cook interesting meals. Solar and batteries have also worked out really well for us. DH needs to run a bunch of electronic equipment while he also needs quiet for meetings which a generator wouldn't work for. Him being able to work efficiently allows us more travel than vacation time would usually allow. Yes resell is probably bad but at this point we've had our van for four years and have no inclination to sell it at this point. I really loathe generators and it would be a last resort for us. We don't heat or cook with propane and live in the Western side of the country so we don't need dehumidifiers and we don't have air con. We bought latex for our bed as we found out that memory foam freezes if you keep your rig on the cold side at night. I guess what I'm trying to say is that your rig and your choices wouldn't work well for us and our rig and our choices would probably have you shaking your head.

I don't get 1328 views but only 288 likes?! One thing about "way too much stuff" is the more of it you're hauling around, the more gas you're gonna use to do so. Doesn't matter whether you're car camping or have the biggest rig, why waste more money for fuel? The rest of it all makes a lot of sense, too.
