Honestly, a wire crate with litter pan and food dishes attached to the bars are your friend when transporting a cat. (Ask me how I know) Barring that, a harnesses attached to carrier or seat belt.

Not gonna go into too many specifics. But absolutely the quality of adhesive makes a difference, temperature for sure makes a difference. Also many adhesives like this need to be activated with firm pressure. The best adhesive to use for this application without a doubt is gorilla glue in the caulking style tube.
