I actually get it I've seen it happen in real life when a woman who went to court to prove that her children are not her husband actually they were. Her husband was an abusive husband had the financial power to take the children from her, and his family background was better than hers. She was painfully middle class she could afford food housing a nice private school not the best but nice one. She paid money to faulsify a DNA test to prove that her husband wasn't her children's biological father and it was later on discovered but by then she had already acquired the necessary documentation of his abuse. The court understood her plight and the husband was to pay child support and granted visiting rights but all controlled by the wife for obvious reasons. So I get her trying to run away, and hiding the truth. The ML is not abusive but she's been hurt by those in power, once bitten by a snake, you are afraid or a rope for 10 year as they say.
