I love this scene she has always thought she was the stuff. I love when she was sitting in the bar telling her friend that she had made him love her once and she could again. And she shows up here bad mouthing Jingjing and YuTu wasn't having it, so he shot her down quick told her he accepted her love but it never occurred to him to return it. The look on her face was priceless she had a few of the guys they went to college with that was running after her, but she wanted YuTu but he had never wanted her and let her know in this scene loud and clear.

But when she insults JJ intelligence and then tries to imply bad things about how she made it in her industry. Explanation of XiaQing's character and story-arc In the novel, it is revealed that XiaQing always had a grudge against JingJing. During Junior High, XiaQing was the most popular and prettiest girl in her school. But in Senior High, she met QJJ who was considered even more popular and more beautiful than her. Luckily she bested QJJ academically, and luckily QJJ confessed to the same guy she also liked, and YuTu turned her down. XiaQing found it to be one of her greatest triumphs to have beaten QJJ, when YuTu agreed to date XiaQing in University, after turning down QJJ during High School. When they first dated, it was XiaQing who deliberately sought out her high school friends (which she admittedly hadn’t contacted for a long time) to tell them that she was dating YuTu. She expected the word would spread between classmates, that she won QJJ, and also that the news would be circulated back to QJJ. So when you think about the moment PeiPei told JingJing Yutu was dating XiaQing and she went home in tears deleting all her history with YuTu, that was XiaQing’s manipulation. Imagine how embarrassing this becomes for XiaQing, when in the end, she only dated YuTu for 1 year, and YuTu ended up happily with QJJ. This is why XiaQing said, she was fine for YuTu to date anyone, but NOT QJJ. Xia Qing said she never used to regret breaking up with YuTu, because he was an idealist for giving up a financially rewarding career to chase dreams (YuTu received many Banking & Finance offers before graduation, but went on to get his Doctorate in Aerospace Engineering). On XiaQing's 30th birthday, she realised that the man that was supposed to be equally as smart and charming as YuTu, and as sucessful as herself, never appeared in her life. She did date one other person, and there are people pursuing her, but they are either not handsome enough, smart enough or successful enough. After making her rounds, she considered YuTu wasnt too bad a choice, especially now that she is earning a six figure salary, the expectation that she needs to provide more financially for the family, seemed to be acceptable. Most importantly he was better looking than any of her girlfriend's boyfriends. So she started checking into their High School Chatgroup to find an opportunity to 'make a move on YuTu' when she saw YuTu being asked by a High School friend to check out his air purifier, she changed her mind again. The thought of YuTu as a maintenance guy turned her off (notice when YuTu was fixing QJJ’s home theatre, setting up internet signal booster in the desert, and building her her wardrobe, QJJ admired YuTu even more because of his talent - JingJing's wardrobe in her apartment costed her hundreds of thousands of dollars to build, so the fact that YuTu was able to build an even more efficient and better one for her in his apartment, led her to realise, with YuTu, it's like earning $100Million). Anyway, as soon as XiaQing heard from a University friend that YuTu planned to leave Aerospace for Banking, she changed her flight itinerary to meet him in Shanghai, because she knew YuTu would become hot property in the field of Finance & Banking, and she didn’t want any random girl to get to him first. Their first meeting didnt go as planned, but she was proud, maintained some reservations and self dignity. (She wasn’t going to beg) When XiaQing saw the clip of YuTu gaming with QJJ, she was furious. She previously heard that YuTu had drank Romanee Conti with a Miss Qiao, she even contemplated the possibility that it might be QJJ, but never believed it was possible. It can be ANYONE but not QJJ. So she set her pride aside and decided to make a direct hit on YuTu, because XiaQing believed that between her and QJJ, YuTu had chosen her over QJJ before, and would do so again as long as she can accept his career path as a Aerospace Engineer, which was the reason for their breakup. She didnt expect that YuTu would have no interest, and what is worse, when she implied that QJJ slept her way to the top, YuTu fairly directly told her, she is just an opportunist, he never loved her, and was just a convenience when she asked him to date her. This is when XiaQing turns really catty and insulting - because this is her true character ... her elegance is skin deep and is just a B**** at heart. Fact is she never got over YuTu because, although she was the one to suggest the breakup, she in fact was the one being dumped because she meant so little to him. P.S. Some fans commented she should be paired with QJJ’s Ex-Boyfriend, SuYe… but people don’t realises, she isn’t even in SuYe’s league, and wouldn’t even have an opportunity to meet someone like him. Even if they did meet, would SuYe even consider a XiaQing? SuYe has an ocean of fish to choose from, would he even consider someone so conceited and such a troublemaker like XiaQing? I actually hope XiaQing ends up with QuMing … they schoolmate that insulted YuTu at the dinner party. Watching this again, I get so annoyed with Xia Qing when she says "we haven't achieved anything." Yu Tu has a degree in finance and enough hours on the side to have a degree in Aerospace engineering as well. He earned a Master's Degree and a PhD at the age of 30. He won a big prize for his research so he could buy a house. I'd say he's quite accomplished, even if he doesn't realize it yet and she's too jealous to give him the praise he's due. All she cares about is his appearance and his social status. She got what she deserved.

I don't see how Yu Tu even got together with Xia Qing. She does not have any charm at all. She seems cold and all she cares about is money. At first I didn't catch the last words she said to Yu Tu before she walked out angry because the dialogue between them was very sparse. A lot of things had to be read between the lines they did say. But after rewinding and going over that part several times, I got that she basically accused him of eventually deciding to go back to the Space Research Institute now that he might be getting together with a rich celebrity like Jingjing. What an awful thing to say -- just because he didn't want to get back together with her and she was very jealous of Jingjing even way back in high school. But one has to admire Yu Tu for still being a class act because the way he turned her down, he made it sound like she was smart to break up with him. In Chinese terms, he "gave her face" (给她个面子). Yet he was still able to make it clear to her that he didn't have any feelings for her even back then; that he got together with her because he thought her smart and independent. So he managed to praise her while at the same time denying her his love. Good one!!

The novel gives a better explanation, that was omitted in the series. The novel reveal that XiaQing always had a grudge against JingJing. During Junior High, she was the most popular and prettiest girl in school. In Senior High, she met QJJ who was even more popular and more beautiful than her. Luckily she bested QJJ academically, and luckily QJJ confessed to YuTu, and YuTu turned her down. XiaQing found it to be one of her greatest triumphs to have beaten QJJ in love ... YuTu chose XiaQing over her. When they first dated, XiaQing was the one to brag her high school friends (which she didnt contact for a long time) to tell them that she was dating YuTu. She knew the word would spread between classmates, that she won QJJ, and also that the news would be circulated to QJJ. So no matter how famous QJJ became, XiaQing grew even prouder based on being better than her. Imagine how embarrassing this becomes for her, when in the end, she only dated YuTu for 1 year, and YuTu ended with QJJ. On XiaQing's 30th birthday, she realised that the man that was supposed to be equally as smart and charming as YuTu, and as sucessful as herself, didnt appear. She did date one other person, and there are people pursuing her, but they are either not handsome enough, smart enough or successful enough. After making her rounds, she considered YuTu wasnt too bad a choice, especially now that she is earning six figure salary, the expectation that she needs to provide more for the family, seemed to be acceptable. Most importantly he was better looking than any of her girlfriend's boyfriends. So she started checking into their High School Chatgroup to find an opportunity to 'make a move on YuTu' when she saw YuTu being asked by a High School friend to check out his air purifier, she changed her mind. The thought of YuTu as a maintenance guy turned her off. As soon as she heard from a University friend that YuTu planned to leave Aerospace for Finance, she changed her flight itinerary to meet him in Shanghai. Their first meeting didnt go as planned, but she was proud, maintained some reservations. When XiaQing saw the clip of YuTu gaming with QJJ, she was furious. It can be ANYONE but not QJJ. So she set her pride aside and decided to make a direct hit on YuTu, because XiaQing believed that between her and QJJ, YuTu had chosen her in the past, and would do so again as long as she can accept his career path as a Aerospace Engineer, which was the reason for their breakup. She didnt expect that YuTu would have no interest, and what is worse, when she started implying that QJJ slept her way to the top, YuTu basically told her he never loved her, she was just a convenience. This is when XiaQing turns really catty and insulting - because this is her true character ... her elegance is skin deep and is just a B** at heart.

More importantly, she was jealous of JingJing who would end up having it all “looks, fortune, career and a charming husband". She never expected YuTu to agree to break up with her, and if you recall that scene, YuTu was coughing, and she didnt give two hoots about it either. During their last meet up, YuTu finally saw right through her - so he showed her no patience for her, but when she started undermining JingJing, he put on his nasty cap, and basically to.d her off saying she is an opportunist, she courted him, and he saw her as a convenient choice, never intending to need to do anything for her, and basically never loved her. I hope she ends up with QuMing (the guy that was undermining YuTu at the dinner Party) Her character-arc also gives you a direct contrast between XiaQing and JingJing. When JingJing was asked, if she wasnt successful, if she was just poor, would she have chosen YuTu. Jing Jing's response was, 'under that circumstance I'll grab onto him even tighter!' ... YuTu was and always will be JingJing's first choice regardless, because she loved him, and believed in him. She comes from a well off family, and further earnt her right to live an extravagant lifestyle, but she doesnt need to live an extravagant lifestyle to be happy. She prefers her mums homemade rice wine, she goes digging for bamboo shoots, she stays at her grandparents village home, she is respectful to YuTu's teachers etc She's happy to live at YuTu's place because it's closer for his work, rather than stay in her posh apartment and can survive on greens. When YuTu asked JingJing what type of wedding she wanted, she said a wedding is a gift from him to her, but also a gift from her to him ... in her views, they will always be equal partners in this relationship.

she is a wonderful actress!! her character is so convincing. i saw this drama a while ago and then i thought that this character was so mean, but i don't know if its my mood, i kinda empathize with her a little. She has all of these standards for herself, to be successful, to be recognized, to be beautiful, smart and wealthy. She begins her rivalry with jingjing due to this, she fights for yutu due to this, she breaks up with him due to this. But no matter her achievements, her effort and her personal growth, it seems as if she is always in the shadow of someone else, there is always something else she wants. Plus in the few scenes she appears in the drama, she discovers that one of her biggest wins (going out with yutu after he rejected jingjing), was actually a mistake on his part and that he never truly cared about her.

I have to correct your misconception. That Xia Qing never loved Yu Tu. To her it was all about defeating Jingjing, because before Jingjing everything was about her. But the moment Jingjing joined their school, she realised the world didnt revolve around her. She hates Jingjing and thats why ages after their breakup, she tries to get him back after she hears about Yutu and Jingjing playing together. Being with Yutu after he rejected Jingjing was what satisfied her gross vanity. She never loved him, he was suitable in her mind because he's the topper and male god and bcz she got the one thing Jingjing did not. It was all about vanity, not love. And that was no closure, that was a slap of reality delivered by Yutu.
