Reon is unaware of the fact that his painting knows he exists and loves him as much as he loves her. Leia, being only a painting, mourns for she can't do anything to stop Reon from hurting himself over her. They're both stuck in the gutter with the canvas separating them. Tragic, really.

i remember that being a theory for a while but i think the consensus for the narrative behind these songs is that the girl did exists at one point, Misery and Gerbera sort of alluded to this too being sung from the artist's perspective, to put it simply, the girl is the artist's lover/wife, an incident happened and as a result she died. the narrative of Leia basically revolves around the artist's grief and how he is unwilling to accept her death, he painted his lover on her deathbed and treats it as if he treated her, but because the painting isn't her it could not respond to him, not wanting to look at a world where her loved one does not live, he tear out his eyes, however after doing so he found himself slowly forgetting about her, before he forgets about her face entirely he decided to kill himself setting the atelier ablaze. As for Reon it's told in the deceased spouse's perspective, even if he could not see her, she's always by his side, wanting to stay with him more, but she couldn't, and so she could only hope for his happiness. In Gerbera, he watched as the girl laid on her deathbed In Misery we glimpsed how he felt leading up to his death, how he wished he could salvage her life. at least that's what i can gather now

The lyric that was translated to: "My destination was there, yet my happiness was here" Was enough to clue you in to what this is about, grief of a painter that made a painting of his recently deceased lover but told in the perspective of the lover.
