User review of my FT 897d and experimentation helping hams

Hi, thanks for a decent honest review. I used to own a 897 and sold it about 4yr ago, well I regretted it so just picked up a really nice used one that had the filters replaced and has the optional filters installed and i couldn't be happier. A real go anywhere and do most things ok sort of radio. Take care from the UK G3OS

👍👍👍 Great video. I had the same radio but I use the MH - 59 microphone. The stock microphone made me sound a little mushy.

Have you tried the auto tuner or internal power supply with this? I’m looking for an 897d if anyone is selling. KFOGGD.

i never tried the internal batteries, back in 07 when i got mine the matching yaesu tuner didnt have real good reviews, i used the LDG 897 tuner for year, when it quit LDG replaced it with the YT 1000 auto tuner and so far i like it. if u buy a used rig there 3 filters that go bad at bout 10 years old, it cuts way back on ssb output. bout a 100 buck repair from Yaesu. thanks for watching! 73!

thanks for watching n subscribing!! ive really enjoyed my 897d i keep the manual and a mr nifty quick reference guide to it handy as i need help remembering some of the settings. one thing if u use a mic besides a stock yaesu such as a heil, be sure to turn the mic gain down and you will need to turn it down the same in all modes, ie. ssb, fm etc. on my heil pro set i had to turn it down from the default setting of 50 to 12 or 13. if not your audio is way over driven n distorted. only issue ive had with mine is loss of output power on ssb. yaesu replaced 3 filters, fairly common issue radios 10 years old or older. thats only prob i had since i got mine in 07 new. hope this helps 73!

@@kb5miqbigboy Thanks for Subscribing as well. I have one of those guides also. I'm in the process of building an off road HAM radio bike. The 2X2 ROKON that I have videos about will carry my portable HAM shack. It's a work in progress. I bought the 897 because of Tracy from the KZbin channel Outdoors on the air. I'm no spring chicken either. Long hikes with lots of gear years me up. So I thought I would mobilize my outdoor set up.
