Thank you for the preview. I absolutely love my Yaesu 818ND, FT-991A, and FT-710. However, I might have to pass on this one. My IC-705 was an impressive investment with the addition of an AH-705, a tag-along ID-52 and several high capacity batteries. At least until I learn more, my use case just does not give me enough reason to take the plunge. If I had not purchased the IC-705 and painfully waited for this rig…..maybe. But then I would have missed years of great portable QRP contacts that I really believe would have been missed out on with my 818.

@o00scorpion00o2 ай бұрын
It looks more compact than the 705. I laugh when Yaesu call it a FT-818 replacement, it isn't simply because it will cost a huge amount more and it's got a lot of features a lot of people don't want or need and the 818 with a mic processor would have been all the radio many people would have ever needed. We see the same tactics in the Auto Industry, simple cars are gone, cars now have more and more tech shoved in people's faces, cars are now entertainment centres and many parts are really expensive to replace, for example, many car headlights can't be replaced without the main dealer coding the headlight to the cars main computer. Anyone familiar with motorcycles will see the exact same thing happen with Honda for example, they replaced their much loved Deauville NT750 with the NT1100 and called it a Deauville replacement but it's a much more expensive bike with a bigger engine and a lot more tech TFT screens etc, they can charge much more for it, one reason the old bikes are so popular is due to their simplicity. While I've no doubt the 1F will be an amazing radio, Yaesu need to come up with a much cheaper radio or they will force a lot of people to buy Chinese radios.

I'm curious if they'll come up with alternate backs including things like amplifiers to let this unit get away from merely being a low-power QRP radio. It could be a convenient radio for mobile use with YSF for the 2m/70cm bands plus 6m/HF in a package that doesn't take up nearly as much space as an FT-991a would, or might at least support using this almost like a control-head with the amplifier module being mounted remotely.
