Gouken's gameplay design is genius. He's an inversion of Akuma. Instead of being evasive and mix-up heavy, Gouken is very grounded and excels at set-ups and controlling space. Akuma wants to surprise and overwhelm with long combos, Gouken aims to shut down your opponents options and lock them down with the threat of hard-hitting punishes.

I guess one example is how they use the "Senkuu" move. Akuma uses it for evasion (Ashura Senkuu) while Gouken uses it offensively (Senkuu Goshoha.)

@@bradejensen funny you mention that, since the Japanese Voice Actor for Gouken was the voice of Ryu in 3rd strike. It's even cooler when you realize his supers are also the same (Denjin Hadoken and Shin Shoryuken)

@@-Ryu That's intentional, he taught Ryu the two moves sometime before 3 which shows he won over Akuma in his ending cutscene

@@TheLuconic Gouken has got so much tech it's nuts that ppl don't enjoy him. I mean, I'm just basically finding out (or perhaps remembering) that he can crouching low kick into hard tatsu fadc ultra 1 (may need to input it backwards) as an anti-air punish. That's insane! Not to mention cancelling his parry fadc ultra 2. People act like his oki game is weak, but he's got a vortex. His wakeup is his biggest weakness, but he's still got options for that. Mega underrated in both being fun as well as doing well, in my opinion. He needs a lot of work, but if Gen can do it, surely so can he.....

I love how Gouken can shoot a Hadoken at the sky. It symbolizes his emphasis on defense and his direct opposition to Akuma as well as being his equal.

He has the tools to be top tier but sadly his footsies is lacking his high pressure tools require him to be close range and his specials are all about throwing your opponent across the screen away from you with a few exceptions in his demon flip sweep and dive kick. He lacks any real high-low mix ups and has very few reversal options without spending 3 bars of meter for any of them. He is very good, but he requires a good bit of game knowledge and just knowing how your opponent plays. He can transition between rush down and zoning quite well but lacks any sort of jab pressure and his walk speed and back dash are pretty subpar. His forward dash is godlike though allowing him to keep up his pressure game or getting in for a cheeky throw. He can be a frame trap monster though. Over all he is vastly improved from his vanilla days and I really wish he would've made it into SF5.

gouken gameplay is like in street fighter 5. Short combos with normal blows. And most of all made to use their special moves in combos while the opponent is in the air.

I come from mk this game is way more technical. The inputs are different and hard to do. I can’t seem to use guile or charged characters. I’m trying Cody and gouken but still learning what strings combos and how not to mash is so hard 😂
