Why does James act like Daigo thoroughly studied for Smug? He just picked up on Smug's tendencies the first time they played, and simply exploited them. Highly doubt Daigo would spend time trying to learn Smug exclusively.

Smug should have picked up on two things. 1. Done acual block strings because daigo realized everything he was doing werent actual block strings. Thats why he kept getting dped. 2. Stopped hitting buttons after the knockdown. Daigo, as the commentators pointed out, knew smug loved hitting buttons after a knockdown. Smug in my opoinion could have played a little better if he adapted. Im a huge fan of his and seeing him get destroyed like that sucks haha. Im also a fan of daigo. Props to his match against smugs dudly

it was more he kept going for the overhead and daigo was ready for it because last time they played smug got him with alot of overheads, but in the long run daigo was way more prepared for that match then smug. which is a shame as im like you and really wanted to see smug pull it out.

Basically someone did more homework than the other did. I'm assuming Daigo's been grinding against a resident Dudley in Japan in Kokujin, who used to play Dudley in Third Strike but was inspired to try playing him again in USF4 due to Smug's success. And the Japanese players certainly learned their fill, especially Smug's tendencies to do that overhead on wakeup which took American players couldn't figure out but at least Daigo and Itazan realized this.

BludAardvark Daigo has been traveling for weeks, he didn't have the time to try and practice for Dudley. n fact, Daigo already had Dudely experience, as one of his friends Hxmjp is a resident Dudley player. The only piece of studying Daigo had of Smug was his first game against him when he realized he likes to press buttons, and go for non true blockstrings..

MrFoxtrotpro He's been playing back to back so hasn't had much time. Smug's gone months of being destroyed only to learn how to adapt. Similar to how Daigo had a year of being basically free to Infiltration until he adapted and then started returning the favor. But at the same time, Daigo has been in top form lately running over most people he's come across.

MrJade12 Seeing as they had only played each other a few times in that year and Infiltration 6-0 him one of those times where at least one other time IIRC it was 3-0, he was definitely free to him. He took time to adapt and he even said each time after he lost that he wanted to play him more in long sets. Smug's only played Daigo twice now and their first games were closer than Daigo's were with Infiltration back then. Their second showing has gone the same way. It'll be interesting to see Smug adapt as he's always done after blow ups, even then money's still on Daigo.

xOmniCloudx Infilitration won at Evo and in 25th anniversary grand finals while Daigo beat him in winners. Smug on the other hand lost to Daigo at NCR,Final Round and at Topanga World League 5-0. That is what it means to be really free to someone.

hardace1708 idk about that. the tech and strat daigo is using vs smug is applicable to the whole cast but no one else is using it for whatever reason. little do people know, daigo fights HJMXP the exact same way. it's just how you play the match up. daigo's offense is his reads on smug, but his defense is just how to fight dudley in general.

Ironic since Sanford has had little luck and little consistency in blowing up Smug using Ken and Sagat.

yeah. Its funny how daigo doesn't play E-Ryu like how E-Ryu should be played. Like he just gets meter and fishes for a low forward kick confirm to go into his thing. I've heard that Sako and to an extent, Snake Eyez plays E-Ryu a lot more toward the cleaner high execution end of things.
