The US army pup tent is the best I have ever owned, bought it in the town of Soest in Germany from a war surplus store in 1962. Used up in the Alps, along with a US army mountain sleeping bag. The flactarn pup tent is really small, if you are tall, then you need to adjust the pole at an angle giving you the length to stretch out. Other than that, you are going to touch the sides, resulting in letting the rain soak through in wet weather. Definitely not for two people, including two packs. Sleeping bags etc. However the US pup tent will take two people including gear.

Nice video broseph. I went through basic with those terrible shelter-halves. The heavy rains at Benning would more than double their weight. And if you didn't put you and your buddy's ponchos over the shelter, they would leak like crazy. So once they allowed us to dump them, we chose to either sleep under the stars or just make shelters with our ponchos. I never used another tent in the Army until about 2 years ago, once we got the ICS. Those are sweet.

I know this is an older video, however those are East German poles with the West German tent. Also, they usually had rope through the grommet holes just like the US one which makes a huge difference!

Wrong. They are Swiss, one can even see the Swiss cross on the case

@@emcaccoc3 Can the East German poles be used with this tent?
@roachcatcher2662 жыл бұрын
Hi great video, you are correct in saying the poles are too long , they should only be about 1 meter (39/40 inches) some other videos prove this as the A frame shape is way too steep on your set up. A shorter pole will give a similar footprint to the US pup tent.

Almost picked up a couple of the USMC Shelter Halves at Weekender Surplus in Tulsa this past Saturday. Now...I may have to go back and do just that. Good ol' military surplus is hard to beat in terms of quality and affordability. Great video sir.

Hey survivormetalman, VARUSTELEKA has the original poles on sale atm for $15 for 10 sections. Worth jumping on for it. You'd have 2 sections left over after setting up.

I do like the poncho/shelter combo of the German tent but the other one you could bounce a brick off of it, tight! Nothing so far seems to beat the polish Lavvu🤘stay well and heavy brother

I wonder if a pair of 1.25" wide telescoping poles with a base length of 30" and a max length of 90" would work for the Bundeswehr. The extra beef inside said poles would be pretty sturdy for this, ya? Having used the usgi pup I can attest to how garbage wooden tent pole sections are. Just roll it up and strap it down to the top of my ruck like I did in OSUT. Seems like a great one-person pup for a hot tent after adding a jack and making a miniature (mini by comparison to what's on the market) diy stove. Edit: If you can find the original poles, holy crap is this Bundeswehr a nice tent. I recently found a pair of halves complete with original ropes, stakes, and poles, and even the pouches, and for one person, it blows the GI one away. While they ARE metal, both poles together (which are 4 sections each) are about the weight of a single USGI pole. While yes, it'd be tight for two, understand that if this were used in winter, that would make less space for your and your buddy's body heat to have to warm. For one, it's a palace of a canvas tent, assuming you're about 5'10 (6' you'd be a tiny bit cramped length-wise). I could easily pup a small wood stove in this thing with a stove jack and have my gear in it, and be plenty warm even with having my firewood piled inside and my pad laid out. Moreover, if you button it all up (ridge AND ends), lay it out longwise on its side, and fold the end corners in like with the GI one, then fold the rectangle in half lengthwise, you can put the accessory pouches end-to-end (I point the tops toward the middle) and roll it all up. Tie it shut with the ropes on each end, this thing is, iirc, more compact than a single USGI half rolled up.

The German Flecktarn is my favorite camo pattern. I actually just bought a slew of canvas tarps for the garden and my range. I'm sure these would be much more cost effective. I was looking for some more Russian Plash Palatka's b/c they are very nice and inexpensive. The shipping was crazy expensive though and the prices are high on Amazon. Great looking pup tents, very cool.

Fumasterchu it’s a sweet pattern for sure brother. I need some uniforms in it. Price is good, shipping is about the same as the price, but it was on my doorstep in less than 48 hours after ordering.

I’ve just commented on one of your other vids asking if you had seen the German army pup tent ⛺️ well then I almost immediately spotted this vid 😊 I think you have the wrong poles, they definitely look a bit too long, but like you said, trekking poles are the way forward. Try using some elasticated cord or paracord loops around the bottom to really get it stretched out. Did you get the carry pouches/hoods with each half? I love mine so much, but can be tricky to set up by myself 🤙
