Lack of practice but at my age u can expect it. My interest is still there but frustration has increased because I knew how well i played. Now I only practice short game (it s easier). I ve taken note of your great instruction to all aspects of the swing. Short game is ok, But you know what they say (drive for show and put for doe.) Using a long enough driver makes this much easier.When a golfer uses a driver that is too short and defaults to his standard or flat swing plane, he will then swing back down and will realize he is going to miss the ball entirely unless he pulls the head back in across the line to make contact with the ball. A longer driver reaches the ball and promotes an inside out swing. Tall golfers have more trouble with this when using a standard length driver. I always did until I started experimenting with longer drivers. I now use a 47 inch driver with all other clubs proportioinate to that. Unlike before, I can now swing with my natural swing and hit the ball straight without any swing manipulations or back problems. I use graphite graphite shafts in the irons too to keep the swingweights under control. By the way the ratio of a 45 inch driver to a 5'9" golfer is the same as a 47 inch driver to a 6 footer. If you don't believe me do the math. It works out to 46.96 inches. If a golfer is taller than 6 feet the length should be even longer to keep the ratio the same. The USGA's proposal to make the maximum legal length 46 inches will destroy swings and destroy backs sending golfers to the doctor or chiropractor, especially as they get older and less flexible. The USGA is incompetent.
@jamesdixon47703 жыл бұрын
This video helps tremendously. Todd, when you start the swing with 60% of your weight on your lead foot, how do you keep from swaying? Do you shift pressure into the heel of your right foot? What do you key on to complete your backswing? Your technique looks so smooth!
@USGOLFTVshow3 жыл бұрын
Great question. The key is to shift to the trail foot and keep your weight on the inside of the foot. For most amateur golfers I like to see it work towards the heal of the trail foot. Make sense?

If you have your set up down pat from a ball position standpoint, feet shoulder width or so apart and good rotation, the key is to maintain that tilt. That keeps you back and hammering the nail through the ball. This is what I have found works. Most people get all of these things correct, then try to "hit" the ball, causing them to get out of tilt and move forward too much, which results in sky high balls or coming over to the top and slicing. This use to be my issue and still happens at times, but as long as I stay tilted and in the back pocket, I'm money!

Hello Todd, please comment about hand position at the top. These days the TV Pros cup the left hand or at a minimum hold it flat. Big difference between this and the old natural hand bend. This is a positive way to swing in to out and hit the ball solid however it takes some hand strength. Tell us what you think please.

The driver can be the most difficult club the aim as the face has roll and bulge to it. This combination makes it easy for the face to lay open at address. Try bringing the clubhead up to waist height to find square before putting it back down. This has worked well for many of my students.

OK...LOL. I just came back from the range. I broke my back 3 years ago and am at the end of rehabbing. I just started hitting again a month ago. Had to get help learning to swing again. Lotta work. Lotta balls. But, I could not get my driver under control. Ive actually talked to some pretty famous names and they all gave great tips. But, couldnt make it work. I just stumbled on this video this morning and took what I learned to the range. ZERO expectations. I can hit my irons and hybrids great. I can launch my 7 iron nearly 180 yards. Thats carry distance. Cannot hit a wood or my driver. Anyway, the tip about hands in front of clubhead at setup... light went on. Warmed up and started testing it. Little off at first and made adjustments and suddenly I saw 225 yard carries no more than 5 yards off target line. By the time I got it figured, I was carrying past the 225 mark. Picked up the hated 3 wood and was banging it past 200. Im 65, busted back (better now) and I thought it was over. Just to be clear, there were other things that needed tweakin. But, this setup tip was the missing link and I wish I had video. Thank you Mr. Kolb. You unknowingly helped me save my love for golf.

Ive watched many of Todds videos and I wish I could spend one day working with him. I just cleared the final key issue and that was widening my stance beyond shoulder width. Not severely, but maybe a shoes widtha nd it was the thing that brought it all together. The day I fixed this, palyed my favorite course. A 9 hole par 33 andwalked away with a clean 35. Why? @USGOLFTVshow3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking. In the Vertical Line Swing you will need to let the arms rotate more through the strike. A good feel is to get the logo on your glove to rotate down early in the impact zone. If you do it too early you may over hook it. Hope that helps 👊
@rore733 жыл бұрын
The left arm vertical tip you offer for “experienced golfers” does work, however my experience is that the ball often “pops-up or ball flight is reduced. This has always seemed strange to me since the ball flight should be higher. What else is involved that I’m overlooking? Thanks for these tips!

Todd I was watching the 60-40 method for irons. Does this also relate to the driver? Because to hit up on the driver, you need to tilt your shoulders to get the up swing.. I feel that I have more weight on my back foot to get the shoulder tilt so I can hit up on the ball. Is this wrong?
@USGOLFTVshow3 жыл бұрын
Good question. Yes the 60-40 works well for the driver also. Note, the set up calls for a 60-40 split with a favor to the lead foot, however early in the backswing that pressure moves quickly to the trail foot. It is this shift of pressure that improves tempo and increases distance. Make sense?

@@USGOLFTVshow thanks. Just that little tip at the end about moving that front foot in and left hip out really helped. Went to the range today and was hitting draw after draw 200+ yards consistently. Thanks again.

@@USGOLFTVshow hit more fairways today. I think I missed two out of 18. Too bad my second shot and chipping still sucks.

I just can't seem to get the driver figured out? I've been working with a coach. He keeps saying - there's nothing to worry about! Lol I know he'll get me hitting it. I just can't figure out why I have so much trouble?

No swing speed 75 age same for swing speed. Ball goes about 180 with a fade with driver, actually all my clubs do that except for PW, 9 iron 8 iron. Been playing golf for 50 years. I have a bad back . Should I quit. When I was 50 I was a single digit.

@@USGOLFTVshow the part about leaning the shaft forward. I know I am guilty of that.

This may sound like a corny idea but it you had a camera on your head so the viewer could see alignment, hands, and ball etc just like when they look down. Maybe a drone above your head?

Most drives are adjustable these days I have mine set to the highest loft and draw angle to help with the slice If I don’t press my hands forward then I’m going to hook it because the face is so closed at set up That seams to work bestfor me but I think the setting in the driver has some factor in where the hands should be Do you agree or disagree ?

Spouse had back surgery, now she cannot feel her feet. She is now topping the ball. I suspect that your feet feel is part of the brain's calculation as to where the ground is. Any comments?

Sorry to hear of your the challenges for your spouse. You are correct, a wider stance with the toes flared will help the body feel stable/secure. This is important for those who struggle with balance. Hope these ideas help.
