Sean found a vintage Kodak Brownie Starflex camera with a roll of 50 year old film still in it! In this video, he takes a look at the camera and sees if it's possible to create usable images with this very old and very expired film.

I love the photos from this camera particularly the ones you took before they were cleaned up. They had great atmosphere! Wouldn't it be great to get the old photos back to those people or the family if they are no longer with us. It's a monumental task I guess but a romantic idea.

Yeah, it would be cool to find those people! I tend to dislike dust specks in an image, which is why I remove them in post. But I will keep in other things like the texture of old film.

It's so crazy and fascinating to see those old 60s photos from an unknown family :O

This is beautiful. Coincidence, that I bought a brownie camera that has a roll in it and I cant wait to shoot it. I love the texture and your choice of photos considering what you knew and did not know about the time, so all fits well. Its a good idea, thanks, so I can do something similar and try to photograph something crazy.

Awesome find I love the old film shots. I do wanna say one thing about the starflex .. much like the kodak brownie reflex and reflex20 . They aren't true TRLs the pseudo twin lens since one of the lens is actually just the viewfinder. TRLs like the roliflex actually have two lenses of the same focal length coupled together while Kodak made there's to resemble the TRL the top looking lens is not the same focal length and not coupled to the taking lens. Usually called peusdo or fuex trls. Made alot les expensive for more ppl to be able to afford. I recently found a Kodak Reflex Synchro at a thrift store wanting one for sometime not but not wanting to just look up on the internet and find it and buy it. I love finding these cameras in the wild on my own. It adds to the excitement I get when I come across one.

I should instead say that it has a TLR style waist level viewfinder.

It’d be amazing if Reto made a new Brownie Starflex for Kodak. 135 film for convenience, so probably 3:2 ratio rather than 1:1, but getting a huge waist level finder on a simple plastic camera would be a lot of fun. Maybe a slightly tighter focal length than the standard 31mm basic plastic camera, and ideally keeping the two aperture options with a simple fixed shutter speed.

That would be awesome! Considering how popular new film cameras have becomes, its weird that we haven't seen more new TLR style cameras. The only ones we've gotten as far as I can tell are the Blackbird Fly, The Holga 120 and 135 TLRs and that cheap build-it-yourself 35mm TLR kit camera that goes by a bunch of different names. Oh, and Lomo made another kit one called the Konstruktor. But it would be great to get a new Starflex clone!

@@FotodioxInc I had never heard of the Starflex until I saw one at the local Goodwill, and it really seems like the right TLR for someone to make. Mechanically super simple, but the joy of a waist level finder.

Where did you find someone able to develop 50 year old film!? What ISO did you expose the film for ? 0.01? lol :-p - Fashion (Gal) is definitely Mod, 1966-69

I used Dwaynes Photo. They develop 127 film. The camera only has one aperture and shutter setting, so I just took pictures and hoped it would turn out :)
