Hello, thank you for this video. The lock is mostly used as a run lock. You should be able to engage the shutter and turn the lock on then if the camera is on a tripod the shooter can get in the shot. I used this feature many times as a kid making films with my brother. You always had to make sure you had a full wind and then exit the shot out of camera and turn the camera off.

Excellent and informative. I just *might* do a vlog this year using your 8mm film in my Keystone 8mm camera. Thanks for reviving these vintage formats. 🎞 🎥

Have many double 8 camera's in my collection, and adore it so, that I bought a couple projectors to view my efforts once I've finished shooting some fresh film stock. Most have been on expired film, so I'm certain of failure on those, but I'll be ordering from you soon. This Yashica is a beauty. Own many 35mm still camera's from them, but only recently found a 8mm Cine unit from the late 60's. Your review makes me want an older model, but I'll wait till I try my reflex Zoom 8 first. Have a great day my friends. Love your content. Best of luck.

As usual, a fine presentation! I have had a Yashica 8 sitting on my shelf for a while, but just this weekend tested it out with it’s old roll of Kodachrome. I’ve wondered if these cameras weren’t a japanese copy of a Bolex 8…… they’re pretty similar layout and operation, it looks like to me. The japanese were pretty good copiers of many German (Swiss) cameras. Thanks for another fine review…… 👍😊🎃

Thanks for the great videos! I have learned so much from you. I picked up one of these (although it just has a single lens) and it can do single exposure shots. Can you tell me which shutter release cable I need? The user manual doesn't say and it only shows a portion of the cable in the pics. Also, if I want to digitize the film then I would buy the negative film correct? Is there a way to digitize it from the reversal film so I can digitize it and run it through a projector?

This one's for you! - kzbin.infoHpLWod-88MM?si=XxU0D0APuIutzrQ0 Both reversal (positive) film and negative film can be scanned. (You will need reversal film if you want to use a projector)

I just loaded Kodachrome II ASA25 on my yashica 8 . I got a cheap one just to practice loading . However you mentioned this can only be developed as black and white I would like to send it to you guys however just want to confirm this is possible ? I know it won’t look the best when developed but I’m just practicing before I buy the better stuff . Thank you

Because of the age of your Kodachrome film, unless you shot it at ISO 5, it will unlikely yield any images. Film that old loses sensitivity over the decades and needs to be exposed differently. The FPP does not process vintage Kodachrome. If you wanted to proceed, contact spectrafilmandvideo.com/lab/

I've always wondered how you load these, so you have to load in darkness or can you load in daylight? Just used to protecting film from light!
@FilmPhotographyProject
@FilmPhotographyProject 3 жыл бұрын
The film is on what's called a "daylight spool" so most oof the film is protected. Load in dim light. If outside, find the darkest shade available. - Mike

I only ask this because I can’t find any information on it.I have a Yashica 8-ES in PRISTINE condition. Not a scratch on it. I put in some new Duracell AA batteries in it…hit the shutter button and nothing happened. Granted I didn’t have any film loaded in. Would love to know what the issue could be! Thank you! 🤓
@FilmPhotographyProject
@FilmPhotographyProject 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, These cheaper, later models are prone to electronics failure. You don't need film to run the motor. Your batteries are not making the connection meaning that the leads are corroded or internal wiring is "shot." Try cleaning out the battery compartment with cotton swabs and white vinegar. Good luck! - Mike

How do you focus this camera? Or do I just guess distance
@FilmPhotographyProject
@FilmPhotographyProject 2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the lens that ships with your vintage camera. Many D-Mount lenses are fixed focus - others have focusing options.

Hi Mike. Tnanks for another great clip! A few days I was lucky enough to acquire a Yashica 8-E III. It's in pristine condition and everything works too. But one question if that's ok? It has three internal filters - ND , C and H. Can you please tell me the function of the C and H filters?
@FilmPhotographyProject

One is clear, one is UV and the other is Orange. Suggest you set to clear and leave in that position.

Is the shutter speed constant, or dependent on the fps?
@FilmPhotographyProject
@FilmPhotographyProject Жыл бұрын
Shutter speed changes when you change the film speed. Recommended film speed 16 frames per second. (16fps = 1/30th sec shutter) Google for info regarding other film speeds and shutter speeds.

Thanks! So recently, I purchased an old camera like this, (Wollensak eye matic 8 mm spool camera with single fixed lens. Model 74) with two spools, one with film already on it, so do all these cameras come with one take up spool and the other one is what the film comes in? Also, looking for reviews on it, but can't find this particular one or their manual
@FilmPhotographyProject
@FilmPhotographyProject 3 жыл бұрын
Most cameras taking Double 8 spool film operate the same. So following the instructions on this video will work for your camera. Note that if your camera has an automatic "electric eye" - that eye may no longer work so best to alway meter your shots. Hope this helps. - Mike

@FilmPhotographyProject
@FilmPhotographyProject 3 жыл бұрын
"Guesstimate" focusing. If a planned shoot, use a tape measure. If casually shooting, set your focus to the best guess # of feet your subjects are from the camera. Here's a video that shows "guess focusing" - kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWGsdGqhhtSWpMk - As you can see I missed the mark many times.
