Using a hammer handpiece for leather tooling?

Just a quick video demonstrating how im attempting to use a micro motor with hammer handpiece for tooling leather and seeking advice on how to get best results.

I have a foredom hammer attachment, if you look up how to shape & use gravers, you’ll see what each tip does. The most common is the square graver, it can make different scribes both thin & wide.. as well as shading.

I make some of my own stamping tools from SS bolts using my Dremel tool and files. I looked up the micro tool and there are several options. I couldn't find a link to the reciprocating tip you have. I believe making tips for it however would be relatively straightforward. This is a very interesting concept. Again, thank you for the information.

I think this would work great for figure carving. the way you can adjust the pressure, with a little practice I think it woul make some beautiful work.

You must try it on vegtan leather that has been cased. It's almost like working clay.

I'm super surprised this doesn't have more views! Seems like an amazing idea. I'm also totally green when it comes to tooling. The only other tips that I think could be used would be bevelers. Possibly certain backgrounders but I would be worried the rpm would be so high that the pattern wouldn't show and instead be more like smashed leather. I'm definitely excited to see where this goes.

I've been anxiously awaiting your video on making your own bits for the hammer handpiece, but I haven't seen anything posted so far. I would really love to see that! I just bought a micromotor machine like yours, but I can't find the hammer handpiece anywhere. I've searched Amazon & AliExpress, as well as any other sources I can think of, but I can't find anything compatible with the micromotor. Can you post a link for the supplier where you bought yours? The handpiece with the interchangeable head is called an "E type" dental handpiece. The seller i used is no longer in business but if you search alibaba for dental handpiece manufacturers , email one that sells E type handpieces, and tell them you want the reciprocating type ( i think they sell it as a dental saw handpiece) they should be able to provide what youre looking for..just make sure you tell them you plan on using it to insert round bits that are 2.35mm because unless you instruct them otherwise, they usually provide the reciprocating handpiece with a collet that accepts saw blades instead of round bits.
