Hi, thanks for the comment. I must admit I have not tried composite on a modern TV. I got an N64 with the Ultra HDMI mod a good while ago and it's been great. If I had to guess though, I'd say it's probably not a very pleasant experience, especially given the size of most modern TVs now. I probably wouldn't recommend Ultra HDMI as a first choice, it's very expensive. There have been good advancements in various external products , so it's worth looking online to have a hunt for something that can achieve similar results to a HDMI mod at a fraction of the cost. Taking S-Video out of an N64 into something like a RetroTINK can get some fantastic results, it's just a case of looking for the best solution for you and for your particular region and model of N64, keeping in mind that not all N64 consoles output the same.

I am so glad I found this 4 years later. I am looking into import games and consoles and was always confused by the whole power supply differences. Especially with the whole AC and DC stuff. At my grandparents house in Japan, I had a Nintendo 64 that I used to play since I was little, and I brought it back to England with me for nostalgia's sake when they passed away, but I didn't know that it would actually be possible to use it over here! Thanks for all the help! :3

mains appliances have a 20% tolerance, you can quite happily run a 100v appliance on 110 or 120v and vice versa

Your legthy explanation of the power adapter was not entirely correct. The 3.3V rail is not internal to the power adapter. It actually outputs both 12V and 3.3V.

Japanese consoles do work in the United States the plug is the same even though US electricity is 120 volts

Daniel Holt ALSO PAL CRTs only have PAL TUNER BUT NO NTSC TUNER AND SOUND SUSTEM CHANGE TO SYSTEM M as NTSC-M. Unlike CRT TVs from Asia also supports International tuning support on both system M ,B/G, I, D/K, NTSC, PAL, SECAM, NTSC 4.43, AUTO. Some Sony NTSC CRTs support PAL only on inputs sold in the Philippines.

Worth mentioning that most modern North American and Japanese NTSC TVs will accept a PAL signal from an N64 as well. And you can use a North American or Japanese N64 power adapter on a PAL console as well.

Thank you for the impressive demonstration. I now know that we can use the N64's UK plug to make the Japanese N64 systems work. As long as we have a modern TV capable of showing 60Hz, to make the JP N64 run at 60fps. Does American, N64 systems require 0.8A to work with the N64's UK plug (As well as JP & PAL systems)?

I think you can get adapters for the cartridge slot, so that you wouldn't need to cut the plastic. I don't know if that sounds like a good idea to you or not, but I'd feel a bit annoyed having to "damage" my console to play NTSC games.

Yes you might as well, I don't recommend using the original Japanese power adapter, I live in the US also had it running and the power adapter shut off after about 30 minutes "it still works" US one however stays on.

NTSC TVs do awful with pal signals though,grainy no color and no sound have no idea why pal TVs handle NTSC so much better.

I can imagine that older NTSC TVs didn't work with PAL because back then it was unlikely you would be using it with PAL equipment and the extra cost of adding support wasn't worth it, but I would think that modern TVs would be identical to their PAL counterparts because they probably both come from the same factory.

+alex seaton (frisbee) Depends on what normal is for your console (I feel a deja-vu coming). If your console is American, then you need to do the same mod Tom talked about in the video, only difference is the placement of the tabs. But if normal is PAL for you, then I don't think it works.

As long as the power supply is corresponding to your region and outputs the same voltage you can use it. for a japanese PS2 slim you'd just need a European or American PS2 slim power supply depending on where you live

I think its rather strange how he kept saying "Normal NTSC games". It's a Japanese NTSC-J system, so wouldn't NTSC-J be considered "NORMAL" for that system? Shouldn't the more "correct" wording be "Import NTSC games" or "NTSC-U Conversion"? Not trying to nit-pick here but it just sounded like you were saying a system playing games its designed to play isn't considered "normal" LOL

+DvdXploitr I see where you're coming from and I agree, but I guess it's like referring to a medium meal at McDonalds as the 'normal' choice, it doesn't automatically make the large option an abnormal meal. If I chose the word 'regular', you'd probably leave the same comment so I guess my entire sentence structure was wrong throughout the video if you look at it from your point of view... BUT.. you completely understood what I meant and weren't confused by it at all, so yes, it is well and truly nit-picking. I don't have a problem with nit-picking, but keeping it to yourself may be of some benefit to a content creator like me in the future because nit-picking about videos that we work hard on doesn't help anyone.
