interesting, a field I gladly saw an even more potent price-revolution in. Would love a tabletop SEM, here beside my computer on my desk but still quite steep for the average hobby-based joe, as they seem to raneg from 10k to 70k for these small modern desktop SEMs

Hi University of Leicester, I have question about SEM, 1/ Could SEM see nano materials, clearly or blur ? (I mean it's a normal SEM, not FE-SEM or high resolution SEM). 2/ If my material reach nano scale, could I use SEM to prove this material reach nano size? 3/ Which is the best method, cheap and convenience for characterizing (shape and size) nano materials? I hope I would receive your answer soon. Thanks University of Leicester so much.

When done, click "shutdown" on the windows 3.1 Taskbar prior to turning off the machine.

What kinda differences would be there if I go for SEM testing of (1) cement paste i.e., cement plus water (2) mortar i.e., cement + water + sand, and (3) concrete i.e., cement + water + sand + gravels? Also let me know which case would be more appropriate in order to discuss the phase characterization of the products formed therein such as the main hydration products e., CSH (calcium silicate hydrate) and CH (calcium hydroxide). One more thing.....how can I assess the structures of either of these two hydration products in which case, I have to first dehydrate my samples prior to going for SEM testing (during the sample preparation stage)? So if dehydrated, there would be neither CSH nor CH in the prepared samples for SEM.

I much more prefer JEOL manipulation system using joystick and focus/mag knobs. Pressing a buttons doesn't look quite convenient.

This is a bit harder to use than a USB microscope.

probably anything...like Polymers, ceramics, etc. They could be biomaterials like PLGA, or anything really. this is used to understand the surface of any material.
