This week we are talking speed temp probes. We talk about the different ways we run them and use the information to produce fish.
Captain's Round Table is a series of videos that helps to explain the many questions about salmon and trout fishing. It proves that there are many different methods and ways to be successful on the water. These are all well respected Captains on the Great Lakes.

Good info but I also would have liked to hear more about fishing the temps throughout the season. I agree with what was said about temp in early spring and towards the run, but I wanted to learn more about what you guys target for temps otherwise and decisions made around that information. Maybe in another show.

Thanks for all the advise guys!! I bought an X2 after watching this video and fortunately my new bought came with a brand new X4 as well. Can't wait to utilize them with this advise in the spring. Love these videos gentlemen. Really appreciate you all sharing your awesome knowledge of Lake Michigan fishing. You guys all rock.

Best part is captain describes sitting in one spot and have current working lures. I saw charters almost dead still and catching and thought it’s a mirage. Knowledge is a King! Thank you

Hello Adam , thanks for taking some time to chat with us at C.C. on Monday, it was nice to meet you. I have a question about using power pro as a substitute for wire on riggers. What pound test of power pro do you use ? I’m going to use it on one rig this season . Thanks Adam , great show

I am willing to share a lot of information but fishing deep is a tactic that we use in tournaments and our methods we really don't talk about. If you have any specific questions feel free to give me a call or email. glreeltoreel@gmail.com

@@Reel2ReelOutdoors Yes I did watch this video and I just want to say thank you very much for putting the time in for all of us. It is a great helping tool. So my question is when I go one way I have to crank up the throttle and then you turn around and go the other way 180 and throttle comes way down am I going against the current or with the current. The x2 seems to have that 10 second delay but it's not aweful, it still gets the job done on a tiny boat like mine. It seems to stay pretty consistent speed wise and if it doesn't, change batteries and it improves.
@Reel2ReelOutdoors
@Reel2ReelOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
We don’t see anything close to that delay on ours. Maybe send me a picture of your transducer set up. glreeltoreel@gmail.com

@@Reel2ReelOutdoors its an x2 so it's a slipducer. Its on my rigger cable usually 1-1.5 ft below the water. 10Ib shark weight under the probe.

@@andrewkenny742 I missed the part about the x2. I haven't used one but have a boat at our marina that used one last year. I will ask them about their experience and get back to you.

Do you calibrate your surface speed on fish hawk to match gps?
@Reel2ReelOutdoors
@Reel2ReelOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
No I don't. I almost never look at my GPS speed and only use the probe speed. I if im fishing offshore or primarily near the surface then I use mainly GPS speed.

maybe missing something but can't justify a fish hawk atm let alone giving it a down rigger to it's self but fishing 3 lines makes things so much harder pretty much i just look at where you get hit the most then put my 3 there or at depths where i am seeing fish on the graph sounds odd but run a center diver on braid then depending on time of year fixed planers with weights outside or quite tight down riggers (only have 2 ) very small boat only me sorta makes very tight pattern maybe 9 ft with both arms out between and the diver down the center. In the spring i run fixed boards off the downriger clips can get really wide in spring for coho and steeles went to the fixed planers just cause solo it was better on landing not having a on line planer. if your looking for that edge that odd bounce you get from a mid line on a fixed planer in the spring wow can't miss thanks all don't think i will ever get to that 110k trolling boat but heck you never know

Do you run the snubber above the probe or in between the probe and ball? Great talk as always!
@Reel2ReelOutdoors
@Reel2ReelOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
You should run the snubber or break away cable below the probe. The idea is that the snubber or break away cable will break before your main cable saving your probe if your canon ball ever gets hung up.
