By far my favorite kit bashing type channel. I'm an engineer, so the fact that you use collected pieces, 3d printing, and "unorthodox" or unique techniques like using knock-off Legos to attach things REALLY gets the dopamine going for me. I'm really excited for this channel to blow up.

A red LED in the lense would be very cool. Give it that creepy HAL vibe. Great work!

The eye looks great! I definitely agree that was the right direction to go with the design.

When you take apart a computer keyboard (Desktop keyboards usually, laptop not so often), there are usually three clear sheets of plastic inside, a middle sheet with holes in it, and two of them with patterns on them to make up the circuits between the keys and the PCB. These patterned sheets would make excellent wing textures/material for a sci-fi dragonfly, and would only need to be glued to a wing frame, and they'd still be pretty light-weight. Also the keys from a keyboard are as you already know, great greeblies.

Plus, the membrane domes still work as keys so long as the traces on the inner membrane isn’t damaged

This one is so cool. I think the asymmetric camera and pilot was definitely the right choice, you could bring back some balance by having his dashboard unit that's semi-spherical
@chicgeekery18 күн бұрын
I love the pilot on one side, and the eye on the other! I do like the idea of four wings to be more dragonfly like.
@anon_y_mousse16 күн бұрын
Neat. I would just hide some metal spars in there to reinforce the wings.
@PantsuMann19 күн бұрын
Oh boy that eye looks awesome. I can imagine it darting around, being on look out, tilting side to side rapidly for the side and top cameras. Really cool!

SO cool! You could add some fine detail cables to the eyeball’s surface to make it even creepier/cooler.

The eye is great, only suggestion is to add a rear eye to the tail because the rear left is a blind spot.

Creative use of an old webcam, I wouldn't have thought of that myself but it really fits the dragonfly. The sandpaper evaporating got a genuine laugh out of me too.

To enhance the dragonfly aesthetic, I would suggest very thin, transparent wings.

That eye is next level awesome. I love it. And, unless you're incorporating metal into the wings, I think it's probably sturdy enough. Check out the ornnithopters from the Dune movies if you're stuck for ideas on wing mechanisms.

The eye is a real nice touch, I feel like it would look better without the glass canopy above it - just my opinion though. I'm excited to see what's next with this build, definitely an existing one, especially because of the more organic forms. Great job, love your work!

The eye looks sick lol The muktiple kenses gives this cool impression that the eye would focus per lens based on what optics would be needed, like say its a long range on in the center, but suddenly theres an up-close engagement from underneath, so then the eye flips to the side and looks down with the infrared lens or whatever Very cool vibe

This video is the first I discover from your channel. As a neophyte modelmaker I have to say this is very, VERY inspiring. Nuts and bolts are a great way to hold parts together while keeping them detachable, though I would suggest to try to stick to a single or maybe 2 profiles, i.e. hex m5 countersunk, to keep the bolts manageable, things could grow out of control quickly.
@Virgiliusz19 күн бұрын
Think the eye needs more internal components to be visible it's an internal organ of a machine so cables cooling fins circuit boards heat vents capacitors etc
@Rockhopper119 күн бұрын
if you design the wings as a solid in 3d software, then the fun part, use a hexagon as a boolean shape, and use it to cut out a hexagon pattern down the wing, around a 1 cm size, it will then look like a dragon fly wing which is made up of segments, it will look really cool, plus you can see through it to the model.

If that eye moved like Mad Eye's from Harry Potter, that would be plenty spooky. Can't wait for colour. LEDs inside?

What about making the rotors from clear plexiglass covered in Mylar which would give it a insect appearance like a real dragonfly.

here is an idea: what about six wings? to diferentiate it even more from Dune film ornitopter? imagine it as a less bug coppied design and more science based thing.
@DerBobika19 күн бұрын
Maybe you should align your Pilot with the Flightdirection?!
@AH90011211 күн бұрын
The lens is not that spooky. If you add a cluster of protruding lenses, gathered tightly and off centered from the globe it would add to the feeling that "this is wrong". The entire lens cockpit adds towards the design not being symmetrical in its entirety, but do it even more, add a tangled mass of cables and tubes from the copter body to the lens cockpit, and paint the lens cockpit a different panel color so it looks like field modification. If you google matrix squid robot lens you get a feeling. but that example is symmetrical.

Wow, I'm just commenting like crazy today. So, I saw this demo for a silent drone. Pretty sure it used electrostatic or something to push air around. It was ugly as heck. But, the "wings" were just a short of mesh. Now, I was thinking since I heard Orthopters aren't that feasible due to the required wing size, maybe a funky electrostatic mesh in the wings could be a cool visual feature, while adding some Lor or tech back storey. I'm visualizing some voronoi like pattern implying 3D printing?
