Both ways are good if u are in a legendary division 1 season =165 gems and if u complete challenges regularly u will get enough gems to use legendary coach wich will also gives u around 10,000 coins enough to buy 5 rare coaches .

Nope, you are matched with people who played 1st live game of the season same time as you. Like if I play my first live game of the season on 9th day then I will be in race with people who played their first game on 9th day. Hope you got your answer
