Mud Slingr hey buddy I love you work I got a 3.5 inch direct flusher I use it for everything to flush the tape and do my finsh coat for angles its got the wheels on it its a wallboard but you think I should get a small one or 4 inch without wheels because sometime its good but then it spots its not making a east sand edge its making that cloud look edge is hard to sand how to elimate that
@Mudslingr9 жыл бұрын
I've been flushing my tape with a 2" anglehead or flusher and then finishing with a 3" for a very long time now and have rarely had a problem. Occasionally the bevels will be a little wider on the board (probably because of a mfg screw up) which makes it hard to fill the bevels while flushing the top angles. If you are taping AND finishing with only a 3.5" I can understand why sanding would be a pain. Using the same tool on both passes creates a thicker edge which is harder to sand and usually has to be skimmed by hand to fix it. I prefer no wheels.
@samhammoud27259 жыл бұрын
so I have the wallboard 3.5 direct fluser with wheels should I get the 2 inch without wheels and use the 3.5 I have direct fluser with wheels or should I scape it and get 3 inch not wheels to finsh
@Mudslingr9 жыл бұрын
By saying "direct" flusher, I am assuming you mean the one that gets hooked up to your compound tube or Mudrunner ? Personally I was never a fan of the "direct" flusher and don't know any tapers that are. I have one, but I keep the cover over the hole and use it as a standard flusher, on a pole after filling the angles with my tube and corner applicator. It is sooo much easier to apply the mud with the tube and then use a flusher on a pole. But if you think this way of flushing works for you, keep it up and make a video for the rest of us to see. You may be the only guy that can get that system to work smoothly. I'm not joking. I really mean it ! Buy the 2" without wheels and finish with your 3.5". I still think a 3.5" is a little too big whereas a 3" is just right for finish.

@Mudslingr2 жыл бұрын
I have tried but it does not work as good for me. The angle box gives better leverage and much easier to use in my opinion.
@malvarez84848 жыл бұрын
that's the whole problem and why guys don't like direct flushers.....you have to water down the mud so much to push it out that triangle thing they just end up making a mess........if you leave the mud a bit thicker it doesn't run and over applicate
@chocolatepuddingpant9 жыл бұрын
I use a 2 1/2 inch flusher after i roll to glaze, then on my second coat i use a 3 1/2 direct flusher. I find this combination does a pretty decent job.. ive never used angle heads... not that im opposed to them, but their pretty expensive compared to flusher. Hey, anything beats hand finishing with a 6 inch.. lmfao

I have a question, when your laying your tapes if you don't use a bazooka how do you set them for 3 ways. I have made a homemade super taper, so backs are all nice and coated, and picked up a couple flushers. I just find where they lap if I lay a room, corner roll then flush I have them bunch and crease and I am starting away from corner and going back. Not sure if your willing to help me out with your trade knowledge I'm just trying to do my basement and it'd be nice if I didn't have to go back and pick each 3way since I did shell out for the flushers 2" and 3.5". If you wanna answer greatly appreciated!
@Mudslingr7 жыл бұрын
Since I work alone, I always do my stand ups first. By the time I am done them I will go back to where I started and do the top angles. By now the stand ups should be set up enough to not bunch up when flushing the top angles. If you are slapping tape on by hand make sure it is stretched out so as not to cause bunching (very important when hand bombing). Don't rip the tape by hand. Use a sharp pointed knife to cut the tape in the corner perfectly. I use a tube when not using a bazooka and I can put tape on top angles off the floor(8-9') using a long handled knife. I'm 5'10". I am right handed and lay my tops on from right to left. After I cut the last corner I will slide the next tape under it while picking up a little mud for it. I hope that helps.

so what if you hand taped something without using a roller then decided you wanted to use a tube and flusher to finish would you just flush with a 3" or 2" then 3"

Hello Mud Slingr, did you remove all the wheels from your can-am applicator or you have 2 wheels?
@Mudslingr3 жыл бұрын
I removed them all on my Can-Am apps. I leave the top 2 on my Columbia app. They are the same thing but that's how they work best for me. I like to feel the app float on the head. It allows me to "feel" the fill. Obviously I don't jam the tube in the corner. Just holding it lightly to the angle.
@anthonydusina81426 жыл бұрын
I use TapeTech angle heads, never used a flusher, seen them but never had the urge to use them, jus because thats an extra step in the finish process. If you use a MudRunner you can have the same results as a flusher, I do it every finish coat. Flushers are good, but angle heads leave a sharper finish..
@lefyre12666 жыл бұрын
I have both anglebox + 3.5" anglehead and tube+ applicator with 3.5" flusher. Angle head leaves sharper corner, better edge feather, but the mud is tight, tape imperfections can flash, bevel not always filled flat. Flusher not sharp corner, can leave edges, but leaves more mud on corner, covers more, fills bevels. Harder to sand, but less touchups. Big jobs I use anglehead, small jobs where I don't want any touchups to have to come back for, choose flusher.

Great video, Mud Slingr. Your videos have helped me improve my skill a great deal. This video inspired me to check into purchasing a set of flushers. I appreciate the link you posted to "All Wall". I checked it out and am wondering what sizes of flushers you would recommend? Also what's the difference between standard and wide track flushers and which would be best to invest the money in. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us.

+George Olver Thank you and your welcome ! Personally I feel a 2" or 2.5" for taping and a 3' or 3.5" to finish. Anything larger to finish is overkill. I haven't had a Columbia Widetrack in my hands yet but the pic on All-Wall says it's a bit wider and the clip is a little better than others. Can't complain about that. Columbia makes great tools. I have a few brand new sets of Can-Ams in my closet which will serve me well for years and always have. I never was a fan of wheels but that's a preferential thing.

please help. I've been boarding taping and painting for over 17 years now. been working with a northstar set and wondering how to roll and flush angles without ripping my tapes when angle boxing finish coat. nortstar doesn't make a 2 inch flusher so I flush with a can am 2.5 then finish coat with northstar 3.5 and tapes get ripped in middle cause can am flusher was obviously rounder then the true sharp 90° by nortstar angle head.
@Mudslingr6 жыл бұрын
You are correct. You need to use the same. Flushers and angleheads don't play well together. Ripping tape while rolling isn't unusual but it's a pain in the ass. I find that you really have to hold the roller 45° to the angle always. Too much pressure on one side will rip it and not squeeze the mud out enough. Or your wheels are worn out. And don't let the tape wrinkle when rolling. Stretch out the tape if you have to.
@sevagboyajian31686 жыл бұрын
Thanx mudslingr but my roller does an awesome job. so does my can am flusher ,but I would like to apply with corner Mudd box and nortstar mechanical applicator head. so do I roll then flush with the mechanical flusher head with only ball pin handle and not Mudd box? I'm just wondering why North star doesn't make a flusher for angles but makes a roller and corner box with mechanical head
@sevagboyajian31686 жыл бұрын
I have a 5 Plex coming up and I need to be efficient as possible cause I priced it too low and now want to make the process of taking my foot out of my ass as less painful as possible.
@Mudslingr6 жыл бұрын
If you will finish with the anglehead then you must flush with it too on tape coat. Yes you are correct. Roll then flush with the anglehead on a separate pole. Corner box is only for finish coat. But you may/will end up with heavy edges if you use the same size head for both steps.
@sevagboyajian31686 жыл бұрын
so I talked to Northstar they say to use roller then flush with angle head on ball pin. I just find these mechanical heads really sharp and pull or tear my tapes.

I am thinking of buying some tools. I like the hopper idea for outside corners ; I set the tape by hand for inside corners. the tool that embeds the tape is that called a flusher. I like to buy good tools so could you give me some names
@Mudslingr9 жыл бұрын
The embedding tool is called an inside corner roller. I only use a roller when taping with my Columbia auto tapers. The flusher is the tool that creates the final finish like in my video. If you buy Columbia tools you will be very happy. Here is a full set. But a second anglehead is required. Angleheads are different from flushers but do the same job. Best place to buy from no matter where you live. www.all-wall.com/Categories/Set-Specials/Columbia-Tools-Full-Set.html These are flushers. www.all-wall.com/Categories/Corner-Flushers/Columbia-Standard-Drywall-Corner-Flusher.html

do u like flushers better than angle heads?
@Mudslingr8 жыл бұрын
I prefer angleheads but flushers are very nice too.
@fr8trainUS6 жыл бұрын
I find that angleheads give a more precise corner, but flushers give an easier corner. They both require cleaning up behind. If you are a one band man, a good roll and flush behind the taper “almost “ picks your 3 way for you.
@antoniosmall44135 жыл бұрын
I don’t get it. Should you use the flusher or the corner box?
@Mudslingr5 жыл бұрын
At the beginning of my video you can see me holding the corner box with an anglehead attached. This is one way of doing it. At about 1:35 I use a tube to apply mud and then use the flusher to feather it out at 2:10. Either system works well. But the anglehead has a crisper corner. Not slightly rounded as flushers do.
@antoniosmall44135 жыл бұрын
Mud Slingr my angle head is leaving thick edges. I’m new to it. Also have you tried the Tape Tech mud runner? Also how do I get consistent work? I have a full set of automatic taping tools.
@Mudslingr5 жыл бұрын
@@antoniosmall4413 Thick edges usually means your mud is too thick. You may think it is soft enough but it probably isn't. Water it down some more until you have no edge. Do a few practice angles with softer mud. Really really soft. It may seem like you are adding too much, but you aren't. Trust me. The anglehead leaves a very thin coat. A flusher will leave more mud depending on how hard you push. I have a MudRunner and I like it. It works very well. But I've been using a corner box for so long that I prefer using it. A corner box will fit into places a MudRunner won't. It's quite long. As far as getting work, become good at what you do and try to get work from any smaller contractors you can. Phone them all and leave your number. Advertising on something like Kijiji might help.
