for people who are curious, the red box is an audio interface! it makes the sound the mic records into wav files and processes it so your computer knows what it’s getting. that model is a focusrite scarlet 2i2 and it’s great for beginners.

Honestly whoever says something about auto tune can usually be ignored. It's mostly people without any knowledge about music regurgitating something they have heard someone say in some context. Today auto tune is on almost any song and in 99% of the cases you can't hear it because it's not meant to be heard. It's totally legit to use auto tune when that one take was really really good from the tone and the emotion but the pitch was a bit off. Usually producers use auto tune even if the take is perceived as perfect because if vocal 1 is just a bit inaudibly higher in pitch and vocal 2 is just a bit inaudibly lower when played at the same time they sound dissonant even if on their own they sound perfect.

I mean garage band (at least i know logic pro x does) has a different thing called pitch flex that's a bit more hidden that you can literally adjust the pitch of each note and that tends to be what actual producers would count as auto tune. but that takes honestly a lot of time and will only ever be used if like one note is off but the rest was good. but your covers are really good and show that you have genuine talent and i never doubted you for a second

Everyone automatically assumes everything is auto tune because nobody is actually educated in music producing whatsoever and don't know that all auto tune does is fix a person's pitch and can't make people sound amazing or effect the actual sound of their voice other than fixing it so all the notes are hit correctly. People can still hit notes and sound like shit, for example I am very capable of staying on pitch but I sound like shit anyways because I don't have an actual nice voice or another example when people make funny videos of presidents singing songs or whatever all they're doing is auto tuning their voice to match the pitch of how the actual song goes which is why it can sound like they're singing but you know it doesn't sound like talented singing because they can't actually sing

As a musician/songwriter/producer myself I can tell you that even if you do use Autotune, it don’t matter!!! Not being funny or anything but, EVERYONE in the industry uses it. There’s a lot of shame attached to Autotune. It’s an effect that suits a lot of pop music nowadays and it is used as such rather than a form of pitch correction. Pitch correction is used so you don’t have to do the entire vocal take again if you go flat on one or two notes. Stop hating on autotune!!! But also stop accusing people of using it when they say they’re not!!
