Using Books For Language Learning In Modern Age

I love books ;-) For language learning I prefer Books with audio, books for the details, audio while walking, even if I do not understand it fully, it enters the mind nevertheless. When home, when I find my discipline, I read, listen and then repeat the sentences loud. As for an app I prefer fluenday (young app English German French Spanish) , because you "have" to speak in every lesson, the pronounciation is checked. The correctness of Speaking is not sooo important, but the brain will adjust to new sounds and combination over time. Plus like in school I also like to write . Its another pillar of implementing the language in the brain. I am 72, German native , English C1+ and trying to advance my Spanish to B2. I also use my Spanish on facebook groups and emails, fun! As I wrote in the past, I like your channel because you share your personal experiences, and do NOT declare you found the one and only way. Good luck! The bookshelves here are as full as yours in the background.

Books are number 1 study resource still in my language learning. And for audio, I listen to it entire day while I am in office working, it just helps with learning process and also memorizing. You are 72 and still learning language, this is very amazing, best of luck with your language journeys.

@@AdamYLM well languages are just a healthy drug ;-) In high school Austrian style I had 8 years of English, 6 years of Latin and of my free joice (not compulsary) 3 years of Russian and one year of French. So to say as an European opening the gates to the romance and slavic languages. That time there was no money to travel, but it was a basis for later. During university (master electronics) I also studied Spanish at the Latin American institute for 3 years, and later 1/2 a year Swedisch , a few years of Chinese. My challenge for the older days is Basque, autsch. Took me one year to find some ressources, audios etc. on the internet, it will take some years. So I got to know all the polyglots on the internet and their theories, I for mself I would call myself a language lover, as I could not travel to native countries. My granchildren are already exposed to English and French in primary school, they love it and I have hope they will continue the language tradition in the family. Sapanish and Basque for now, as in the Basque country people both language exist and one should be able to switch fast. Also a lot of learning ressources for Basqueare in Basque, somewhat strange as the Basque grammar is looked upon by Spanish from a totally different structure, so very awkward. Have been to China 7 times, do not speak Chinese very much, but I understand when THEY say, he is foreigner, he does not understand much. Leads to funny situations, Last thing, when I recover my Spanish now, its amazing what the brain remembered what I learned the old hard way 50 years ago, Its amiracle. Its so nice to meet language lovers like you here on the internet. The personal language stories are much more interesting the "academic" conclusions.
