Yep, it is an offset tandem disk plow. Very common tool for agricultural tillage in West Texas. If you really want to incorporate and bury top trash and cover, get a heavy Rhome tandem plow (construction duty. $$ ouch). The key is larger disks and more weight. 500 lb+ per disk.... Miller also makes a heavy '3 bar' offset tandem that you can set to a very aggressive angle. An even cheaper way to go is the old school one-way. If the ground is relatively flat, a 13 disk Krause one-way set very aggressive (only 8' coverage) does a great job of cleanup and incorporation. I have a larger Krause one-way but it does not do as good a job as it has less average weight per disk.

In the mid 70's, I ran a Red Miller offset disc. In KS., I was paid one dollar an hour to operate the first John Deere 4 X 4 that was "Center Articulating" tractors and put the first 960hrs on it. This brings back memories.

One of my first farmhand jobs ($2.50/hr.) was discing corn stocks. The farmer had burnt the field off... but it rained and about half the stocks weren’t burnt. I spent half my time unplugging the disc and the other half wiping the ash out of my eyes. Thought I had the job whipped and was starting to feel relieved ... when the farmer came to check on me at noon he told me it looked like I’d made a good start and would really look good after I made a second pass perpendicular to that one. In June, 90 degrees, humidity about 90 percent, the ash, the dust, the chiggers.... the creek along side calling... you know when you are 15, you consider it a victory if you fight through it. I grew up a bit that day! Thanks for bringing back the memory.

👍 We moldboard plowed the old tree nursery after walking it throwing sticks ,roots and rocks into the old Hillsboro dump trailer. Several massive bonfires later.Planted corn on corn after plowing again. Lather rinse repeat. Finally got a decent field then had to start all over after the 96 tornado dumped parts of 8 houses. It was always the intent to develop the land. Farming kept it manageable with a little profit between phases. Thanks for the video👍

I made it into town and was immediately needed to drive an ambulance. One of my friends was injured in the tornado .It was a week before I went home and back to work. This was only an f3 tornado. Nothing like Joplin.

Wow, surprised that disc was working after being out in the elements and under water several times. Nicely done. Nothing like equipment that keeps on running. That New Holland is wider than my drive lane. That's one tough tractor. Enjoyed a full watch. 👍

It's a good thing I waited to the end to reply. I was gonna say been under water how long, should've taken a grease gun and a case of grease for not just the wheel bearings but the pillow block bearings especially since most farm equipment rarely sees grease anyway. ;-) it is a cute little offset disc though, I'm sure that it'd be nice if it was a little bigger and a lot heavier so he would only have to make 2 passes. We used to pull a big 14 foot wide set of ripper shanks through ground like that and then run a offset disk or onetripper over it. Great video buddy!

It leaves something to be desired big time. I watched an old 8430 Deere pull a Rome outside my workplace prepping ground for I69 section 6. Damn that disc was impressive
@gregorycross612 Жыл бұрын
Loading and unloading tip. Put a hammer strap on your tractor draw bar (makes it like a clevis) so that you can use your 3pt with a chain run back about half way on plow tongue to put a bit of lift on the tongue of the disk plow in opposition to the 'leveling spring' to raise the front gang so that it does not drag on your trailer. The spring adjustments are usually set and never touched so rusted in place is par for the course. The tractor used to unload has hamner strap installed. Just be careful not to get it in a bind (don't bottom out leveling spring) as trajectory of the chain will be through back window. Strap or heavy rope is much safer, but still risky. Work smart, not hard and stay off of the Darwin list. 🤠👍

Impressive tires and hydraulics on the disk setup. Do you have any concerns with contamination of your tractor's hydr fluid when hooking up to old stuff like that?

BINGO! I have several Case tractors (5) from mid 80's though early 90's. The brake disks, pto clutch packs, and some fiber trans packs in these tractors have an adhesive that is attacked by some of the additives in some of the big box store generic fluids. I learned the hard and expensive way! I rarely loan equipment, and if I do, you bring your own hoses and cylinder. No more cross contamination!

that's not much of a brush disk,, I guess when I read the name I thought of a braker plow I pulled on a farmers field after a big island of over grown brush and trees took over a big peace of his 2 fields, I pulled that braker plow around behind a 330 Timber jack skidder for all most 2 weeks, over turning spruce and poplar stumps up to 6" or better, and tons of smaller ones, that braker plow worked so neat, just kept rolling it up side down. disked it after with a much bigger bush disk then that, pulling it too with the 330 timber jack, then pulling the braker plow again, then a big root rake that pulled all the brush, roots and stumps up, and dumped them in a wind row at the end to burn the next spring.. that was a blast,, what power, to turn that so good.. I wish we had digital video back then, it don't look good on old 8mm film, I would be a real yt star,, with that rig. but hay, I have things I will be getting into in time, you wait and see, that braker plow was built so heavy, it took 2 self log loaders to get it up on to a pulp trailer deck, all most rolling the 2 trucks right over, putting it on and even off, I though the 330 would pull that thing right a part, with all 4 wheels chains on..

We used disk harrow with a roller behind it, but never on ground like that. We'd have turn the soil with the plow first. The disk harrow was eventually superseded with a big rotary hoe, but still with the roller behind it to keep the moister in the ground. I can remember my dad with the tractor's front wheels in the air every time it went over a bump, because the rotary hoe was just a bit too heavy for that tractor.
