So you began with a simple acrylic painting on the canvas. Washed it in charcoal. Erased to create highlights. Added fur and whiskers with white charcoal pencil. Maybe did another coat of charcoal. Added soft pastel for color. Used a final bit of white acrylic for the brightest whites. I have never seen so many mediums used on a canvas in one piece but it looks fantastic!

Love your style and process, how do you fix/seal it on canvas at the end so that it can hang freely not under glass?
@StudioWildlife3 жыл бұрын
For this I spray it with Windsor and Newton pastel fixative then their glossy varnish then give it a coat of glossy brushes on varnish

This was extremely satisfying to watch! It turned out so cool! Do you do some sort of fixative when you’re done?
@StudioWildlife4 жыл бұрын
Yes so for the charcoal on canvas I use a pastel fixative then a spray varnish then a brush varnish so that I don’t have to frame it behind glass

Stunning, did you use a fixative between the layers ?
@StudioWildlife4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes I did, usually when I work with charcoal I don’t use fixative between the layers but I couldn’t get the charcoal dark enough on the canvas so had to work in more layers, fixing it between each layers

This is fantastic! Thank you! Is the background done with colored charcoal or is it acrylic? Can you use acetone on acrylic paint? Thank you again for sharing your talents.

It’s acrylic paint, I usually just use water on the acrylic parts but you can use acetone on it too

Thank you! Yes I did, I’m planing on spraying it with a glossy varnish soon too! I l prefer a glossy finish and using the gloss varnish means I don’t need to frame it behind glass.

Excellent, so I’m assuming you painted acrylic then charcoal with white pastels then acrylic white on top ? Was this on pastels paper or canvas? Love your work & thanks for giving us some great tips
@StudioWildlife4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes it was an acrylic wash then charcoal powder. I erased the charcoal powder for the details then went ver it with vine charcoal. then i added the white with a pastel pencil. I sealed it with a fixative at this point then went over it again with vine charcoal to add the shadows then fixed it again before adding a final layer of white acrylic paint.
