KZbin works in mysterious ways and this video is still being recommended like crazy so I'll list a few key things I've learned and questions answered. 1- 2 alternative mods you can use are C2ME. It does the same thing as Chunky but its slightly different in its approach. So if you crash a lot with Chunky you could try that mod or try Noisium which is another Chunk generation improvement mod 2 - Chunky doesn't work on servers currently 3 - World looks the same after rendering | Theres a max distance setting in DH you need to turn up and if that doesn't fix it I'm unaware of a solution other than C2ME 4 - I don't get a progress bar | Depending on how beefy of a PC you use when you render a radius under 1000 the bar will show up for a second and disappear or not appear at all. The only fix I've found is slowly increasing the radius you're trying to render 5 - Chunks disappear when flying away after rendering | This could be an issue with shader compatibility or DH CPU settings not being set high enough. (DH and Chunky are very CPU and RAM intensive)

Chunky can be pretty memory hungry when generating at large radii. Try upping the allocated RAM and monitoring the memory usage when generating. Should help with the crashes

DH does in fact not require you to manually visit all the chunks you want to see. I think this is a 'myth' or people comparing it to Nvidium. If you set the chunk distance in DH to, let's say 500, it WILL render those 500 chunks by itself. I think people are simply too impatient, they expect it to happen at the same rate as vanilla Minecraft renders about 16 chunks. If you continously fly around in a new world while waiting for the LoD chunks to finish rendering it'll just take even more time as your computer will have to struggle between rendering the normal chunks near your character and the DH chunks.
@DeviousMatterАй бұрын
This is exactly true, and I figured that out when messing with the mod after the video, but nonetheless, it still takes a long time to generate crazy amounts of chunks, which I do think leads to people getting impatient
@simonassarskog9600Ай бұрын
@@DeviousMatter agreed. Having that said I do think Chunky can be helpful to speed up the process. Or you can go into DH settings, increase the CPU load to a high value and just stand around and wait for a few minutes

@WigWoo128 күн бұрын
For me DH will never load far chunks unless I walk there. Even IF I render with Chunky. I just spent 40 hours having chunky render 100,000 Chunks yet when I fly 3000 blocks in the air I only see the little chunk of land below me. I still have to walk into the chunks Chunky already made in order for them to load in Distant Horizons, so I still have no idea how to make far away chunks load in DH without actually traveling
@DeviousMatter28 күн бұрын
DH has a render distance setting and a setting to enable distant generation, but even when I was messing with it, I noticed sometimes you had to walk to the areas, so it's a little finicky regardless unfortunately from what I've seen
@streeterdoesit53322 күн бұрын
You have to be in single player for distant generation to work, otherwise in multiplayer you can load the chunks and run through them with ease
@DummyPetalsАй бұрын
how do you get the mod to actually show the chunks? I can't see that load in actively?
@DeviousMatterАй бұрын
The chunks should load in around you by default. I don't think there's a setting for that, unfortunately, but I believe it is hard to see them actively load in. You should see the chunks in their LOD form around you, though, if they are loading

@DeviousMatter3 ай бұрын
There is a max render distance setting in DH that is default to 128 and there's another setting called (enable distant generation) I believe that help with that. I don't think I showed that in the video but it's also worth noting that if you have shaders enabled you'll see less then without shaders for a strange reason

@@DeviousMatter Thank you, I managed to fix the issue but now Chunky is acting up. I cant get it to generate 1000 or more chunks without it stopping from working close to finishing. I think maybe my CPU is not powerful enough to render like that
@DeviousMatter3 ай бұрын
@ELTWINKY-_-PR I have a beefy CPU and even my game would crash or not finish rendering with chunky when set to 1000+. I recommend doing it in increments of 100 but I believe it's a limitation of Minecraft itself at a certain point. You could try installing C2ME on modrinth and DH to see if that does anything better. C2ME is a mod that improves chunk generation but it doesn't load it like Chunky so you'd have to fly around a little bit or sit in place and let DH hopefully render more with the C2ME mod. I believe I got better results with C2ME by just letting DH load while I ran around and played survival

DH is a little weird when it comes to giving it ram because if you give it way too much, it crashes, and if you give it too little, it also crashes. I'm glad you were able to find out a solution that works for you, though! Unfortunately, the loading times seem to be a problem with minecraft itself

Hey dude, do you think you can clear up some questions I have? 1. Should Distant Horizon's "Enable Rendering" option be enabled or disabled while chunky does its thing or does it not matter? 2. What does Distant Horizon's own "Enable Distant Rendering" setting have to be set to? Isnt that supposed to do the same thing as chunky? Or am i understanding it wrong.
@DeviousMatterАй бұрын
So "Enable Rendering" should be enabled, and Distant Horizons from my understanding loads chunks just like chunky does, but it takes slightly longer because it's loading them at the same rate vanilla minecraft chunks are loaded. Chunky essentially speeds up the process of rendering chunks, but I'd enable Distant Horizons rendering as well because it won't mess with chunky from what I've messed with. Also, to be completely honest with you, Distant Horizons and Chunky aren't entirely clear on "How" they load chunks, so there's a good chance it's just a patience thing regardless of what option you choose. Hopefully, that kinda clears things up and sorry for the chapter book lol

It pre loads chunks for the world you ran the commands in. Chunky works on the specific world you're in, so if you wanted to load the chunks of another world, you'd have to go into that world and run the commands again. I know there's a website you can upload a world save to, and it'll pre load chunks for you, but I don't know the name on the top of my head

Depending on how small of a radius you do, it sometimes doesn't appear. When I was testing it, sometimes it wouldn't appear when you loaded a distance less than 500 - 1000, so I would just recommend checking the reported bugs on either curseforge or modrith. You could also try slowly increasing the distance you're trying to render until it appears. Hopefully, that leads you to a solution!
