So, this idea of color masking made me think of the setting in my Canon, the option to adj the temp scale and also magenta/greens, cold/warm. Do you ever adj your camera to color settings?
@forestchaput5 жыл бұрын
Not really. Simply because you can change it so much easier with the white balance in LR.

Great tutorial! Does the new update still have this feature as well as the specific new hue colour change as , having just discovered this range mask and what it does, I'm wondering whether to update?
@forestchaput4 жыл бұрын
Yes it does!
@greglundeen41552 жыл бұрын
I was attracted to the tutorial because it seemed to indicate you could use this feature to change the color of something in your photo, but you never touched on that. Can colors be swapped using this feature?
@forestchaput2 жыл бұрын
They can now! The new version of Lightroom allows you to completely change colors if you want to.
@petrahaffter58034 жыл бұрын
Could we also cahnge the color totally? Lets say from a blue cap to a red one?
@forestchaput4 жыл бұрын
Yes, with local adjustments. But Lightroom makes it way harder than Photoshop to do that.

Can you give a quick rough explanation on how to do this in the current version? It looks so simple on your screen but my Lightroom looks completely different from yours
@forestchaput2 жыл бұрын
This video was made years ago, sadly you will need to watch a much more recent video on how to do this in the current Lightroom. Someday we will make an updated version of all our older videos for the current updates. Again, nothing is truly current as Lightroom is constantly improving and changing which makes it harder to always keep up to date videos.

Why does your preview show two different colored hats?
@forestchaput5 жыл бұрын
Because you can make it that color with a color overlay and the right combination of luminance and white balance. It also makes it easier to see the clean selection with that obvious of a color shift 👍
@robinstacpoole26675 жыл бұрын
Great clear video. Worth adding the (mostly) self-evident point that this functionality is only available for users of the web version. Specifically, if you have paid the one-off payment for a standalone version of LightRoom on your computer this functionality is not available to you
@markllevy6 жыл бұрын
Excellent tutorial. Can you describe how to use range masking with luminance to desperate intrusive objects like twigs for e.g. in wildlife photographs?
@forestchaput6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I will add that to the list. Although, in many of those instances, it's sometimes faster and easier to remove them entirely with the spot removal tool. Either way, luminance range mask video coming soon!

Can u completely change the color
@forestchaput3 жыл бұрын
Yep! With the newer versions of LR, you can use the Hue sliders in the local adjustment tool to completely change the color of anything you want in your images.
@notmyname85274 жыл бұрын
Excellent , but the blue hat is a very different hue from the surrounding so its easier
@forestchaput4 жыл бұрын
Yep! That’s why the color range mask is so useful in this situation. If the subject was a different brightness than the surroundings we would use a luminance range mask.
@tubebarros5 жыл бұрын
So.. Where is the red cap?
@forestchaput5 жыл бұрын
That was just done for the thumbnail. All you need to do is drag the Hue sliders in HSL further than I did in the video.

Are these same masking tools and gradient masking features available in Lightroom 6, not just Lightroom CC? Does anybody know?
@forestchaput6 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately these tools specifically were released in Lightroom CC and aren’t available in Lightroom 6. If you can swing the monthly cost, I highly recommend upgrading to Lightroom Classic CC.

The thumbnail suggests the range mask can help you change the hat from blue to red which is not the case. Was the thumbnail just designed for click bait?
@forestchaput5 жыл бұрын
Nope. The thumbnail is showing the red overlay mode that you can turn on with the letter “O” to see where the range mask is affecting. The thumbnail is to show how accurate the selection can be and I figured the only way to show that was by turning on the mask overlay.

Ah, Lightroom would be such a fantastic tool. If only Adobe weren't such asshats about piracy and would simply let you download an installer that you can do with as you wish.
