I never knew MacOS had this attribute. This is perhaps asking for too much, but it would be nice if the filesystem stored the date the file was added to the host system (be it via download or copied/moved from external media) and the date it was added to the current folder.

Great tips! Can default column headers be set to Date Added, Date Created, Date Modified, Date Last Opened?
@macmost22 күн бұрын
Yes, but keep in mind that folders remember their settings, so a new default won't work like you think. See kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHy7dJ16aa2Xprs

Useful. Is there a way to make every Finder window open with List view (or any other) by default? I find it frustrating to have to change the view all the time. Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks. Handy tips there. Here's one for you - when opening finder from another app, for example, to add an attachment to an email, it will show "date added" etc. in the Finder window that the app opens, but if I navigate to my Synology NAS it doesn't display details for "date added". But if I add "date modified" to the header bar then it will be displayed. And I can then sort by date, not just by filename if only "date added" is display (but with nil details). Is there a way around this? Thanks

Hi Gary, thanks as always to all those nice tips. I just discovered that using some folders already into the finder, you can show some additional columns like for example on Pictures the resolution of the images or under Movies the resolution, codec, andmore useful things adding those to the list view. But actually is it true that it's not possible to show those columns into other finder folders? Like for example on my external HD, is not possible to show codec/resolution for my movies, this seems pretty weird to me, do you know some tips?

Yep. If you are using List View in the Finder, you an Control+click on any column heading and see a list of columns with checkmarks. You can use this to remove or add a column. In the Movies or Pictures folders in your home folder, you will get some extra column names, like Dimensions, Resolution, Duration or Title. Here's the thing: If you create your own folder somewhere and NAME it “Movies” or “Pictures” you also get these columns as options. So Documents/My Stuff/Movies will do it. Then add the columns. And I believe you can even change the name of the folder from Movies to something else after you add the column.

@ thanks Gary it works! The strange this is that I’m italian with my iMac in ITA language and this work only it I put names in ENG but Music folder that works also when I put the italian word Musica! Don’t know why… In general don’t you think this is a weird thing for having different proprieties on folders?

@@MrJazz86 Weird? Yes. But weird things can be good!
