I remember looking at the create-a-pokemon gallery back in Gen 5 and thinking Mollux's combination of brilliant concept (snail with lava lamp shell) and flawless execution with its goofy face was as charming as most of my favorites from Gens 2 and 3.

I really like how CAP helps all the metagames develop. Like they created Equilibra to utilize Doom Desire and then suddenly Future Sight is really big on slowking in OU. They developed Miasmaw to give Neutralising Gas a role and then we started seeing Weezing to stop Regenerator cores elsewhere. It's really cool

I was active in CAP during Mollux's development. I really liked how it all came together, but apparently people considered it a failure at the intended challenge of "can we make a pokémon with a weak type combo good BECAUSE of its type combo?" Once Fire/Poison was settled on, there was a big divide at the time between drought and dry skin. A lot of people on team skin were saying that drought would only be valued for the ability, not the type, referencing ninetales' relevance in OU at the time.

i love the design good job if you were working on it, but i don't think fire/poison is that bad of a type combo? the ground weakness is nasty but you have a pretty strong offensive stab combo, we've seen salazzle and iron moth do well with offensive sets, and on a more defensive mon it's really nice to have that 100% accurate toxic along with stab fire moves to punish steels and most poison types. i'm also glad it doesn't have drought, its special attack is way too high and access to recovery would make it hard to remove

@@aldrichunfaithful3589 It was designed back in the Gen 5 days, when Poison was only super effective on grass, and stealth rock kept most fire types out of the game, and poison types basically only existed for clearing toxic spikes or pivoting in on a fighting move.

i don't play cap very often but every time i do i always forget how impressive the mons are. the visual designs are amazing (mollux is my new favourite) and competitively they're all super interesting, it's also clear that the people working on them understand the metagame with how well they tend to fit and how balanced they are

Started dabbling in CAP with a Gen 5 rain stall team (Toad, Ferro, Mollux core was so good). Dropped for a while, then got super into it from 2019 to 2021. I havent been involved in CAP or Competitive pokemon since 2021 but seeing my favorite CAP (Mollux) made me watch this. Fun CAP design memories are submitting my first Stat proposal for Astro, and the shock when bug/dragon won the Mias typing poll. Fav CAP in terms of gameplay was the Legendary Bug when it had Illusion+QD+Tail Glow. Because it let me run 50/50s and shit on the very concept of Pokemon being a high skill game (which I love to do). It was so degenerate, you hate fighting it, but it so much fun to abuse. CAP is also the reason I cant stand facing Heatran.

My take on being a decent CAP player comments: in no particular order 13:40 Ah yes, Volkraken, if there was a 1# special wall breaker, this would be it. Leagues above Porygon-z. 4:12 the dondozo that had reliable healing, a good spdef, and is fighting type. 5:48 My favorite pokemon here actually; stats of a hatterene (with a little more hp and speed), typing of a excadrill, what more could you want? 2:23 Krilowatt, one of, if not, only balanced offensive magic guard user during it's release. Oh also bolt beam. 2:43 Kitsunoh... actually, don't really know much, other than it being a pivot. 3:04 Mollux, one of the only dry skin + water weakness mons. I like it. 3:50 imagine not getting a bug and dragon type, am i right? (that ability got me more times than I'm willing to say.) 10:08 basically a dragon poison non-pseudo kommo-o with all stats plugged into everything except hp. and stored power go brrrr 10:54 Book. what more do I need to say other than what you see? 22:06 That's the shiny you see right there, and if Jimothy gave it the chance, it probably would have shell smashed. (what time stamp was this again?) Colossoil, basically the wallbreaker if it was physical.
