I didn’t know Keep existed. I use a note on my iPhone and make pics and store it in a cattle folder for the year born. This is WAY better! Thanks for the info!

I stumbled across Google Keep by searching. It turns out if you have a Gmail account when you check you email the Keep app is open down the side of your email. Pretty cool!

I’ve never been very active in my family’s farm but in an effort to get away from the little notebooks and hard back ledger kept at the home place I stumbled across your video. Def going to discuss as a potential way to bring our 5th generation farm into technology

That is awesome! There are several apps for farming but Google Keep is free and has been super helpful for us. I use it for the cattle, goats and to keep track of all of our purchased hay. Good luck!!

Perfect timing on this one. I'm tired of paying for cattlemax so I've been researching other ways. I'm handy in excel, but it isn't mobile friendly. Maybe I can keep excel for long term data review and use Keep for the day to day things when I'm out and about on my phone!

Glad the video is helpful. If you have a Google account checkout Google "Drive". It's an online storage app but it allows you to use excel programs on any device. So you would upload you excel sheet then access it through your "Drive" account. Now you have options!

Jason, I heard you mention this during your most recent video on your beekeeping channel. So I watched this video to learn how you use it with your cows and I think I will use it with my bees. Thanks. Great video. Keep them coming.

@Rob Alfred Glad to hear you enjoyed the video. Google Keep has been a huge help of keeping track of our cattle.

Currently we use google sheets, but after watching this video we will trial this and possibly add it.

Google Keep is working well for me. I like the option of the pictures. If you ever have a cow or cows lose tags the pictures are very handy. I also like that I can share the information with the guy I manage for. I am now recording the amount of hay we consume with Keep too. Very handy!

Been using it for years. Replaced my notepad. Great to get in the habit of writing ideas down too.

It's been extremely handy for me. I do wish there was a way to have different categories though. Be nice to have a separate place to record chicken and beekeeping notes.

@@GrazingAcresFarm you could color code them which I see you kinda did. There's also tags you can add so you can filter out your notes easier. But I see what you mean. They've been updating it regularly so we might just get that feature soon enough!

An old farmer taught me if I ever had scours give it a raw egg, I also tagged all my heifers in the right ear and bull calf in left so I could tell what they was from a distance.
@GrazingAcresFarm6 жыл бұрын
I've had a couple people tell me that. Do you give the shell and all? Tagging different ears is a huge help.

Have you heard of "Ranch Manager"? It is free and that is what we use. It been great so far. Automatically calculates dates and has notes and everything needed to run cattle.
@GrazingAcresFarm6 жыл бұрын
I haven't heard of that app but there is so dang many it's hard to keep them all separate. The apps are nice because they figure all the math for you but at the same time that is there down fall. I think it's important to know how to figure these date and calculation on our own, then after your confident and understand how everything works switch to an app like your. I do appreciate you sharing the app you use as I may reflect back on it someday but for now I need to stick with the basics.

@@GrazingAcresFarm We all got our different ways of learning. For me I wanted something seamless as we are new to cattle and didnt want to overwhelm us with too much learning. Looks like this is working out for you so keep it up. Looking forward to future video!!

I'll check this out we use herdwatch app it records calving dates mating dates dates that you vaccinated cattle, work planner and register calves and record grass growth and when cows were in a particular paddock. It's very handy

Sounds like a nice app for sure. There is a grazing app called "Pasture Maps" that I really like but it's really pricey. I got a trial version but after that ran out they wanted $$. lol Maybe I need to offer sharing a video on their app for them in trade for free service. 😜

@GrazingAcresFarm6 жыл бұрын
The guy we buy hay from doesn't really keep track of hay cuttings but it's grass with some clover mixed in. They seem to like it as you could tell. Did you see the bull take that huge bit and work it down? It was funny to watch as I was editing the video.
@MaryMillerSpoolhardyGirl6 жыл бұрын
#5520 looks like she is going incognito with a grey wig and beard. I know you’re not supposed to name them, but I would call her “Nito!” 😂 And that bull would intimidate the bejesus out of me! He was eyeballing you the whole time! 😬😬😬
@GrazingAcresFarm6 жыл бұрын
It does look like she is wearing a wig. lol I'll have to watch the video again because I didn't realize #5520 came close enough to read her number, either that or you have great vision. Her calf is #808 which looks a lot like BOB, so I call him Bob. lol For this reason I refer to mama as Bob's mom. lol I do like her marking but sadly marking don't affect the weight and that where the $$ is. I have grown used to the bull since I started feeding hay. He likes to sneak up behind me when I unroll the bales. He's not treating, he just stands there waiting for me to step aside. You can tell he's actually scared of me. Crazy huh?
@MaryMillerSpoolhardyGirl6 жыл бұрын
I noticed her in the video and then was able to catch a super brief glimpse of her when you were showing the google keep page. I had to pause it to catch her number. It is possible I have a little too much time on my hands.....

Your 100% correct, the pictures won't be helpful if the cattle all look the same. I guess since that's not my situation I never gave that any thought. lol

a pic is good as can document mothering skill; that with notes on females who are good aunties
@GrazingAcresFarm6 жыл бұрын
True. You just won't be able to use the pictures for identification. Now I do have 11 black low lines and have noticed different colored teets and use that to help keep notes.
@michaelsallee75346 жыл бұрын
I am very much into milking ability. run the limits on ability and registration requirement (lost a few on to much white) studied you can see bag color patterns; nice to know but takes more time to get into position, for a good mother, she will keep you more head-on with that young a calf
