There are a million of these things. You've also got bashtop and bpytop. I recall one written with nodejs as well, but let's not talk about that one.

I'm surprised you do not recommend 'Hide userland process threads' display option, it makes htop so much clearer without all the child processes displayed. Also I think you NEED to quit with F10 to save the configs (and also, F5 toggles the tree view).

Yeah. I knew all about this for a while now. F2 seemed intriguing enough to check out about a year ago. I've had all of my CPUs on the left column for a while now. Keeping all of the bar graph stuff on the left side and the more informative numbers stuff on the right.

most modern CPU's have 2 threads per core, so he could have a 12 core machine displaying 24. still, 12 core is good obviously, but the machine will display the threads, not the literal physical cores.

Cpu frequency is good to enable if you do anything like overclocking. When your running your cpu at a higher rated frequency heat can be a real issue and can damage the cpu. Well let's say you overclocked and your system overheated and restarted the system. On cool down your cpu temps would be normal but could still be slightly damaged. Reading the frequency is a good way to see when the cpu is starting to fail or slow down and might give you the chance to stop overclocking and save the cpu

Hey DT, it would be neat to see what you think about BPyTOP sometime. It’s the successor to BashTOP, ported to python for better performance. It’s in some repos already but it can also be installed easily with “pip3 install -upgrade bpytop” if you install python3-pip. It has themes and is crazy configurable. I’ve preferred it over HTOP for quite a while now.

I just use top. When I want to kill a process, I tend to know what it's called anyway, so I just killall. Though I do have my own command that lists all the processes with ps, and that can then be used to kill as well. Oh, and SIGTERM doesn't kill a process, it terminates it. SIGKILL kills it.

Hello DT! Could you tell me, what audio interface you're using? I need to buy one and thinking about Focusrite Clarett , but I'm not sure it will work with linux. The one you use probably has linux support. I have tried to find other ways to contact you, but failed to find anything but mastodon and youtube. So, sorry for offtopic. Why not switch to something more modern and more powerful and more customizable? BPYTOP has tons of features and customization, it's way better looking and yet still runs in the terminal. It's in the standard repos now too.

Distros make up only 10% of your content these days, if I had to guess. So, you should change your name to SoftTube, to encompass all that you do. The logo can be a flaccid tube. What do you think? There’s no underlying hostility here btw, i just like making dumb jokes. Keep up the great work.
