Hi, i just want to share with you an alternative version of this setup, instead of using sends for feeding FOH/IEM mixer i switched the "Heaphones Monitors" setting to "1/4in only". I then put path 2A output to XLR and path 2B to 1/4 instead of multi. This way i can use the XLRs without them having the in ear mix, which goes just to 1/4(they are not even plugged, since i am using the phones output monitoring them). I hope i explained myself decently.

This works for me. I also just use the return 3 input with stereo adapter from whatever device I am using. It comes back to me in stereo, as long as both ends are stereo.

One thing you may want to consider doing differently is you just set the output to a pair of sends instead setting the output to -120db. This also then frees up two blocks on the guitar signal path also

Hi - Awesome video, Many thanks. I have just purchased a Helix Floor, PowerCab 212+, so these types of videos are extremely helpful - many thank. I am just about to venture down the IEM journey (for the first time), I play in a small 5 piece rock band mostly covers at pubs small venues...etc. My questions are to fold: 1. Why use the Helix as the IEM system over say a shure PSM / Sennheiser XSW wireless system, what is the advantage, and 2. What are you using to transmit the headphones out signal from the Helix to your IEM.... cable or wireless. Many thanks, keep u the great work - Stuart

Hi Stuart! Glad this was helpful for you. I’m using this set up because it’s a single piece of gear solution. No extra stuff and everything can pack down into my guitar rig. I like the one and done set up. This is also a wired set up, so it’s not the most graceful but you could easily incorporate a wireless pack I’m sure.

Little more gear to carry around... but imagine adding something like a DOD 240 Passive Mixer to this setup? Have your click, backing track, FOH all feeding into it with the output of the DOD going into just one of the Helix's returns. Then in theory you could have 'global' control of your headphone mix (even when using Presets /Snapshots. You could adjust on the fly without having to relay adjustments the engineer in between songs.

i use a helix and we only have one monitor mix in the church i play in and i want my guitar louder in my iems. i go to a di from helix send 1 and i plug the receiver from the iem body pack into one of the helix returns that i put in a block after send 1. i use the blend on the return block to make my guitar as loud as i want compared to the monitor feed. then i use a xvive transmitter to send the helix main out, which has my guitar and the monitors to my iems. i can still hear some guitar coming through the monitors by i can more for just myself without relying on the sound engineer. i also use a sennheiser xsw-d for my guitar input into the helix so i am completely wireless. it sounds complicated because it is. we are getting a new system soon so we can all have our own monitor mixes that we can control and that will be way simpler.

I tried this and find that the volume coming out of the send is way higher than the regular output channel. Any idea why?

Hi there, I'm doing something similar to that. Since I'm only using path A, which is going to the XLR out, I've placed a stereo return 3 & 4 on path B that goes out to the 1/4 out. Then I've configured the headphone out to carry the 1/4 out. The thing is that when I use the tuner, I lost the in-ears signal!! Any idea to solve this? Thnx anyway!

Seems like quite a complicated way of using in-ears. As long as the sound guy has to give you all the levels, he could easily give you the click/cue track as well. This is only applicable if you don't have a beltpack (wired or wireless) for in-ears, which would be natural to get when using in-ears anyway. As a makeshift solution on the other hand, ofcourse it works.

Yes! The board would be a totally separate from this configuration and would work as normal. Just like you were monitoring with a flood wedge. I’ve played shows with this set up and a digital board/app and it worked great!

I'm confused, though...I have a Behringer P2, the little headphone thing, that I take the Aux out from the board and into the P2 and then plug my headphones into the P2 and have the full functionality without all the sends and returns. Is the benefit of your's and Richie Castellano's method to save from having to get a receiver or headphone amp? Other than this being really cool, is there some other benefit over my method that I am not understanding?

@@jeremystern I see what you're saying - yes, the benefit of this method is that if you have the Helix and some headphones, you can get this all set up with just some regular 1/4" cables without the need for a headphone amp or receiver. Your setup sounds like it's effectively doing the same thing without the Helix hardware, which is cool because you could do it with a regular guitar amp rig too.

Emergency question lol gig tomorrow. What is the Out put of 3rd path with the returns... I see it multi.. is that also mute or -120? Thanks a ton. I also noticed if you put the output to digital instead of muting the multi it still goes the the headphone.

Hey Brandyn! I have my third path set to multi and just 0.0 as the output. I never ran into any click or monitor bleed issues with that. Are you getting those sent out to your mains? You want the output to be your headphones either way so whatever config works for you!

@@TheToneControl my outputs for guitar and vocal mic are set to multi going out the XLR left and Right panned hard Left and Right that is what front of house is getting.

I believe so! It would use all of the sends and returns on the LT but there's no reason it shouldn't work!

That is one of the downsides to this configuration. I'm not sure if you can configure two send outputs to send the stereo sound. Would be worth experimenting with, though!

Or…..you could simply use a mixer like a Behringer X32. Why would you want FOH mix in your ears? I want to hear myself at the volume I want. This sounds way too complicated.
