How you communicate with yourself via your own internal dialogue has a massive impact on how you think, how you think effects how you feel, how you feel effects what you do and what you do effects the results you get back! In terms of dealing with potential violent confrontation its extremely important that your internal dialogue uses linguistics in a way that will support the 'what' you do, in a physical sense!

Im older - 44 - and not at all a fighter. Ive been able to talk my way out of everything my whole life either by being friendly or by pretending that I could be violent when needed. I just started putting applications in for security work and of course the self-doubts are creeping up. Im telling myself de-escalation is what I do best and that's what this job is. I also know I can act hard but I haven't really been tested. This video came at a perfect time for me. Thank you. Hell I may even listen to it on the way to the job interview, and then on the way to work.

This content is incredibly good, it's brilliant, exactly the lesson on my inner thoughts I've been searching for, selected target and meat puppets terms are quite frankly 'magnificent' thank you Lee

Over this past summer my band went on a mini tour. One of the venues we played backed up to an alley, with a parking lot on the other side. And yeah, while loading the trailer, the bassist and I were approached by a street urchin. The bassis is a pacifist, never had a fight in his life. So that dude starts talking to me. I've heard anf felt it time and time before. I cant help but think he was casing us for a robbery. So I started circling him like he was prey. I was ready to rip him apart limb from limb. He asked where we were from and that's when it felt like it was either going to happen or not. I responded by looking dead in his eyes and said "Detroit" (because we're from Detroit, MI USA). After that he said "Y'all good" and walked away. Sometime we get an intuitive message as to situations. This helps when responding to them.I know that feeling though, when someone is after you and the vibrarional intent arrives before the person or - "unwitting prey".

The power of words is underrated! But, just as important is tone of voice I’ve found. I learned this doing door to door sales. This is a really great lesson in mindset because it’s everything! As you once said Lee, if you don’t have the emotional software to go with the physical hardware then it’s pointless!

I would only take it one step further Lee and say, "the results you get back then have an impact on your thinking." This is how people can get in certain spiral loops, and shows how important the management of our thoughts is. Thanks for the great content.

Excellent stuff, s a street kid myself from the age of 12, after a very violent childhood, i studied boxing and and martial arts, I believe we all have a inner monster, but some of us are able to access him quite readily , due to our life experiences. I try to keep him in box and only let him out if there is no alternative. Sometimes he even frightens me.

I agree with both of you fully! The hurt inside of me from my childhood feels like a ocean of rage, and holding it back is tiring some days, but the best way to get a handle on the monster is intense activity: running, sparring, shooting guns, riding dirt bikes, jumping out of planes, jumping off of objects, etc. I grew up in the 70s a poor red-headed stepchild with bad teeth, so I was forced to fight many times between 5 and 25. After being sucker punched in a bar and needing stitches, I finally decided to train Martial Arts. Absolutely one of the five best decisions of my life!

High level content, this is invaluable advice you just don't hear out there. We do program ourselves with self talk & it can have a detrimental, even life endangering effect if not understood & controlled! Thanks for this presentation!

Thanks, you've helped realise and reflect on my own body language.. I often look below the eyeline. I'm going to be conscious of this and work on it. I have done this before and noticed how I'm treated differently with immediate effect, but then let it slip back to below the eyeline. Thank you again.. a lot of value in what you're saying.

Awesome video, Lee 👍 The sad thing is advertising myself as a self protection or personal protection. Instructor people don’t actually understand what I do as they are so used to the negative term of self defence, but you putting out videos like this will hopefully help change peoples thinking . 👍

Think about the language you use to teach, to manage your inner monologue in response to threat, the way you convey what's happening to bystanders and potential witnesses when dealing with a bad person and when to talk and how to describe what happened after the fact - and practice them explicitly. Back in the 90's "posturing" worked. It still works, but with everybody having a HD video recorder in their pocket, the risks of being perceived as the aggressor now outweighs the possibility of ending an encounter non-violently by appearing to be a bigger asshole than some drunk having a bad day.

Just a query about consequences "after an event". I got into an altercation with two undesirables who I was blessed to walk away from, with just two cracked ribs. However, the police had been called to another situation but by fate or whatever got involved in my one on their way to the other incident. The police just saw two adolescents with visible injuries and I was arrested. The undesirables (who came off worse than me) used the race card against me even though they were the attackers. I found myself in crown court facing a mounting plethora of charges. This was a stressful and prolonged situation which could have ended in a prison sentence. I now find myself hesitant to go pre emptive if need be, and as we all know, the threat level to probably need to go pre emptive IS increasing. Any suggestions would be helpful as we cannot always avoid potential assailants.
