Using Leica M Lenses on the Leica Sl2-S

In today's video, I explain why I like Using Leica M Lenses on the Leica Sl2-S. I further explain how using fully manual lenses or vintage lenses on a modern digital camera changes your perspective on capturing photos. Using the SL2-S and an M lens gives me the ability to create a visual narrative that is precisely focused on where I want it to be. The main reason I enjoy M lenses so much is how they render. It's the optical design of the lens that creates the Leica Look. Let's not forget about the compact size compared to the L-mount autofocus lenses. I encourage you all to adapt vintage glasses to your cameras and see how your process changes.

Hey. Thanks for the video, that's very useful. May I suggest sth: I think you're using the microphone wrong. The capsule of the blue yeti is not directed towards the tip but on the side of the red mute button. If you turn that thing around the sound should be a lot better (less echo). All the best

Hello. I have an SL2S and put Leica R lens on it. OMG! So much better than adapting to my previous Sony A7 R camera! Can't wait to try an M lens. You did shed light on my adapter question. My newly acquired M lenses are not coded, and since I do not plan on morgaging my home to buy them, a non-coded adapter works for me. Thanks! P.S. I have: 19mm R ROM, 28 3-cam, 35 R ROM, 60 3-cam R macro, 90 Apo ROM R, 100 3-cam R Macro, & a 560 R Novoflex Pigriff-D.

While I like and do use, occasionally, M lenses on my SL-S. I find and much prefer using Leica R lenses, specifically ones with ROM contacts manufactured in the late 90s-early 2000s. I’ve used the R system for nearly 3 decades so I’m biased. But these manual lenses provides a fine balance of size (smaller than SL zooms, larger than M), ergonomics, performance and character (not overly clinical as SL lenses). Never letting go of these beauties. Regards and enjoyed the video.

@@RamonBrito Most excellent. A few tips. If you plan to use the Leica manufactured R Adapter L, I would highly recommend using R ROM lenses only. Some cammed R lenses touch the electrical contacts on the Leica adapter and resets the lens information on the menu. Annoying. I own both ROM and 3-cam lenses. Non-Leica branded adapters may work better for cammed R lenses, assuming they do not have electrical contacts, but cannot confirm. Best

@@lightloving683 Hi. Thanks for your comment. There is very few content out there with adapted R lenses. I was in the Leica Store Düsseldorf the other day. They had a nice set of proofed Rs. I was told Leica is discontinuing the service for the Rs. Thus they’ve go a little bit down in price. I was also told that people are buying these lenses for videography and modding them with other mounts and pull focus and iris rings. Personally, I find the R adapter too big but I also agree with you.

Loved the comprehensive look at your lenses bro. Reg manual lenses, I have a few Takumar lenses that are near and dear to me, I use them paired with my bmpcc4k and Fuji digital. They bring a tonne of character to the images :)

For the Voigtländer 21mm f1.4, just use the in camera lens profile of the equivalent Leica M lens and the vignetting will be gone.

Hello Ramon. Have you ever tried the Voigtlander 2.0/50MM APO LANTHAR?. He is also very sharp. Personally, I use the Ultron 2.0/35mm ASP and the Nokton 1.4/75mm ASPH.

To be honest with you it was a lens that I thought I could get I was deciding between this one and the Summilux. Since I sold the Summilux I might check some vintage 50mm to adapt to the SL.
