There are powered MIDI thru boxes that might be better than the ones that have no power. I have one that uses a choice of wall power or 9V battery. It's called MIDI Splitter made by Amptone. Very reliable box and very well thought out. I have an audio interface that was not working well with the MIDI Solutions thru box but perfectly with the MIDI splitter. It was the fault of the audio interface. The splitter one compensated for the flakey output from the interface. It's obviously made well with excellent circuitry.

Looks great but the shift should be on the left side of the user interface. Add track, scene, duplicate etc are too important. Why not add a + button, then show a list to add track, scene, duplicate etc, so you can do it with one hand. Currently doing this with one hand feels like acrobatics and is a recipe for handstrain. The UI looks fantastic but please consider that users have two hands. 👌 And midi CC send and receive would be great as well
@ImaginandoPt

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions :) Not sure how many hands you want to use though, as you want to be able to do something with only one hand, but then ask that we consider users have two hands. Of course we're always open to handy ideas from our users! :D

Imaginando Thank you, what i mean is, if you type on a keyboard with your right hand then you use your left hand for shift and the other way around. The reason is simple. Its faster, more ergonomic and intuitive. I would also suggest a single press command to show hide the pianoroll. Currently those lines are barely visible and require a tap + hold + drag action for a primary feature. This is also not very intuitive.

Hi! Just saw this was updated to AUV3 on iOS. Any chance you could describe the functionality of the matrix inside of a program like AUM or ApeMatrix? I’m trying to figure out if the Matrix is a good in-App for me and my workflow which is quite modular. I am particularly interested in whether I could use this as a MIDI Timeline. As you probably know apps like AUM, audiobus and ApeMatrix do not have a timeline so when one works mostly on these apps, recording midi is ultimately a pain and often requires opening a separate app such as a DAW to record it . If I could load one instance of LK and have timelines for my instruments where I can record all the midi I’m composing, that would be amazing! Essentially, can this act as a Xequence 2 / multitrack-midi recorder but inside of an AUV3 Host? There is nothing like this really on the AppStore. The closest being piano roll, and it’s a massive disappointment unfortunately (abandonare which didn’t even make it to the “actually usable” phase). Thank you !! I love DRC btw!
@EnriquePage91
@EnriquePage91 4 жыл бұрын
Ok, I’ve tried it out. This looked to good to way for a reply I simply had to test it since it all pointed out to it being the last thing I was missing on my setup. Thank you for designing what is essentially the last missing piece of my modular music production setup on iOS. I’ve been building this for over a year and I really needed a multitrack pianoroll. To think it came in with all these additional available goodies only makes me even happier. The keyboard was an instabuy for me as I love DRCs keyboard. Would be nice to be able to define how loud keys are but this can easily be remapped with Mozaic. I like the midi control section and the chords too! The control section is a convenience I don’t really need but can benefit from so I will eventually get it. Maybe tomorrow depending on how my wallet is feeling lol. Overall, this is a killer app and is IN NO WAY just an ableton live tool. This is a fantastic midi suite for Modular music production on iOS! Finally I don’t have to open a separate program only to record decent midi tracks👌🏼🔥
@ImaginandoPt

Enrique, it seems that you have already found an answer for this problem. With LK follow actions and more recently clip actions, you can have a automated flow. It is not a timeline yet but allows song structuring within a matrix of clips.

Quick question, is it possible to control software on the iPad from a seperate device using LK? For example I want to be able to run the sequencer on my phone (android) and transmit the midi data to AUM on the iPad essentially freeing up my iPad screen. Is that doable between android and iOS, is it doable at all if I switched my phone to an iOS device?
@ImaginandoPt
@ImaginandoPt 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is possible. There is a free app called midimttr that allows you to advertise a bluetooth midi device on your phone, which your iPad can find and AUM can use. Then on your phone, you can send midi out to that device and it goes directly into AUM. midimttr is an incredible free app -> apps.apple.com/us/app/midimittr/id925495245

Hey. Like the software, but can't use it properly unfortunately. The problem is - I want to play sounds on midi channels with my Push 2 or fingerdrum with it, while switching clips with LK. But as soon as I touch clips in LK in session mode, my Push switches channel to one on which I select clips, so i loose control over midi channel on my push and need to switch it back. OK. follow up. I turned my iPad off and on and the app saw Ableton and I was able to control functions from the iPad using your app, but not use the pads or the keyboard, and still get the bothersome prompt to buy the extra features. I would rather pay a little more and have those be part of the purchase. this seems a little cheap. So do I have to be connected to MIDI to use the pads and the keys and x/y pad in Ableton? I am pugged into a USB powered hub that has many of my keyboards and sound devices into it as well. Can I get this app to work through that USB port? I was hoping that this UBridge or the KL app would help me to organize and direct my different keys and devises. But I would be happy to just get the pads and the keys and the x/y to just work. Sorry for such a long and negative post, but not so happy so far with the app. Maybe I will continue with emails to tech support to resolve these problems. Thanks.

Some form of USB to MIDI cable (if the iPad has a lightning cable port, then used in conjunction with an Apple style 'camera kit' connector cable to provide the standard USB-A port, or if you have an iPad with USB-C port, you could use a USB-C to MIDI cable) is the most popular choice, but it doesn't necessarily have to be the Roland UM1, there are cheaper alternatives to both cables available. @@bergg2009It’s almost like Apple makes their own connectors so you need to give them more money. Well, it _is_ that, but it’s also so much more. I mean, MIDI has been around much longer than USB, so the number of DIN5 MIDI only instruments is vastly higher than the number of USB MIDI instruments. It’s for that reason that MIDI-to-USB adapters came into being. If we then consider a scenario where there are three USB MIDI instruments, then a 4-port USB hub would be ideal for linking them to your control source (in this case, we’re still talking about the iPad running LK.) For the purposes of making the least amount of connections/disconnections, the ideal solution (for someone with older and newer instruments) would be a box/hub that has a Lightning cable coming out of one side, and USB/MIDI/Audio connections coming out of the other side. That sounds to me like a USB Audio/MIDI interface, of which there are numerous brands and flavors. It’s just not easy to navigate the choices that are available. This is because there are so many users with different needs, and plenty of users that aren’t vocal enough to get their cries heard by manufacturers. This, in turn, has led many industrious problem solvers to crowd-funding sites like Kickstarter, which has brought success in some cases, and disappointment in others. Returning to the ideal solution, there aren’t enough Apple users alone to warrant a Lightning-only Audio/MIDI interface, or at least not a reasonably-priced one that has the best feature set for the majority of users. This leaves the state-of-the-art at the level of: connecting multiple (single-purpose) devices together to achieve those needs. Now, I’m the last person to suggest we take money _away_ from giant corporations, but, I’m willing to bet, that somewhere, between the amount of *Raspberry Pi* processors that have been bought and sold, and the number of *Makers* (of the hacking community) that have solved a multitude of problems by incorporating coding and soldering, that someone smart folks out there could be coerced into modularizing these types of interfaces (Lightning, USB, DIN5 MIDI, MIDI over stereo cable, and CV) in such a way that ( _button-pushing electro-nerd_ ) people could just buy a LEGO set, for musical interfacing, that fits their needs. But that is just a different sort of “connecting multiple devices”. Unless *_you_* have a better solution.

i purchased your app and first of all don't like that to use parts of the app, you have to purchase another $3 here and $3 more there. But worst of all, I fire up and get the message looking for U Bridge. OK. So I go to my Mac and download U Bridge. Still looking for U Bridge. I turn off the iPad and back on, and now I get message looking for Ableton. And then nothing.Now I have gone through the task of moving from applications to the UBridge the Live 10 icon and have set LK as a controller in Ableton from preferences. I opened LK again and found my computer when the looking for UBridge came up and now I have Waiting for Ableton Live on the screen of my iPad.Still stuck on "Waiting for Ableton Live" message. This app is not working! I'm afraid that I wasted my money.

Gary, UBRIDGE communicates with Ableton Live by network. Do you have any firewall preventing Ableton Live from accessing the network? Please contact our support for more personalized help. Regards

@@ImaginandoPt Please see reply above. I did get the ableton part of this working, but still not much luck with getting the pads and the x/y pad to work with ableton or without. I have my midi patched through MOTU Express 128, so not sure how that works with U Bridge. I will contact support for further personal help. Thanks.

Yes, LK is a controller app, it needs something to control, whether that's Ableton Live, another software DAW, or external MIDI hardware like in this video.

@@ImaginandoPt Hey there. I'm trying to connect it to Ableton. The thing is that it controls some parts, but it doesn't work in midi pads mode/keyboard/x/y pad and so on. It reacts on play/stop, metronome, and so on. But pads/keyboards just don't synchronize. Connected everything according to instruction (through ubridge)

@@emma.grunwald have you selected a midi device on UBRIDGE? Are you in Windows or macOS? On macOS you just need to select UBRIDGE Virtual. On Windows you will need to install a virtual midi driver like loopBe. We have this covered on our documentation -> www.imaginando.pt/products/lk/help/setup

No need to be rude. It can be very difficult to speak clearly in a 2nd or 3rd language >> Just change your KZbin playback speed in settings. For example x 1.25
