Russia has made it clear for the past 20 years (at least) that moving NATO closer to its border will be viewed as an existential threat. But the US and NATO have consistently ignored that. I don't understand why the US has such a hard on for Russia. Russia is not the Soviet Union.

Forget Clausewitz. He was German and I was 9 years old listened daily his advices, told by our teachers (All former Nazis ). Clausewitz was in an army with small guns and a total other situation ! Also we can not say today what Admiral Nelson always said : Forget all rules, all your tactics. Go all in straight close to the enemies ships and bomb them down ! Clausewitz is history, not up to date. Like Sigmund Freud ( I'm a Neurologist and Psychiatrist ) . All Freuds Books about dreams, about depression and nearly all is simply wrong today ( He also had only some 30 patients , all jewish and mostly female ). Freud, Clausewitz, Nelson ... they are all wrong today.

I think the professor is wrong to say that the NEOCONS think that NATO expansion is not an existential threat to Russia; the NEOCONS expand NATO to the east precisely to threaten Russia and they do so consciously, deliberately and fully analyzed, it is a decision where they thought about all the consequences. These people want war, they do business and of course if they can reduce the population even better.

Such event also occurred about 7 months ago. Russia is cranking up.

Except it was not an ICBM. That is the Kiev communique. It was one of the new family of hypersonic missiles which Russia has developed. The missile is called Oreshnik (Hazel in English) and was tested without a payload as a demonstration. It travels at mach 10. The missile carries six different ogives of six warheads each, so 36 separated warheads in total. Pres Putin announced this afternoon, Moscow time, that Russia would issue a warning before it used launched the missile full armed and loaded. Oreshni is capable of carrying conventional and nuclear warheads.

The US-NATO badly calculated this war against Russia. In all truth, Ukraine had everything it needed to fight this war. Russia and Ukraine started out with the same type of equipment, generally Soviet weapons. The Russians were slow, and careful, but Ukraine was reckless, careless, and fancy, as if they were making a Hollywood movie, and it cost them. From start to finish, the Ukrainian government and its forces were poorly managed, and badly directed by US-NATO command.

39:00 Italy actually did very well in WW1, they defeated the Austrians and had significant territorial gains as a result. They pioneered many modern warfare techniques in WW1 in alpine, naval and underwater warfare. Fascist nepotism and incompetence in WW2 was an entirely different matter. The troops were very poorly equipped and led by too many men put in high roles thanks to party loyalty and not merit.

To further complicate things, the UK is part of the North American geological tectonic plate. At the very least, the V-2 was a short-range ICBM type weapon. And, interestingly, was the first rocket to reach space (exceeding the Kármán line of 100 km altitude).
