It takes time Rob. Make sure that when you have a really good day to think about the times and tides when the best bite was on. When you get home-look at the charts. When you start to see that the big bite periods and the best moon phases usually align you will get more and more confidence when it comes to using the charts. Thats the time when the ball will really start rolling for you and you will start relying more on the charts. Good luck.

I can attest to the tips. They don't work all the time but good enough most of the time, especially during the front in the rain. Carbon fishing rods are conductive so don't fish during thunderstorms. Of course, finding where fish love to hangout is still very important.

My understanding is that the moon actually pushed the tide in front of it self rather than pulling the tide ? a good practise for me is seeing where the Moon is in the sky, I then know where the moon is.. cheers for the vid

Just caught a 6.61 lb 24.25” largie at night on an especially large half moon which I noticed and keyed in upon knowing that up until that point there had been smaller moons that were giving off less light. Other factors made a difference but the moon was a big one.

Congrats on the big one. When you catch big fish and start to see certin moon phases showing up every time you catch big ones, thats when the light bulb turns on.

hey Steve awesome stuff. I just have this question because im telling you I was utterly confused when researching and going out. next time you go out and look directly overhead and the moon is there.. It will be low tide. I could not for the life of me put that together. Based on everything I researched when the moon is directly overhead the tide should be HIGH (gravity from moon pulling toward moon meaning water is moving toward moon) but that was not the case. Can you take not next time you are on the water and the moon is directly above you and report back? This is the part that confused me like crazy.

Here is the skinny. When the moon is over head, it just means that it is a full moon. You will have stronger tides due to a higher gravitational pull but you have to remember their is tide lag and also the solunar day is 24 hours, a lunar day is 24 hours and 50 min . So tides and moon phase are not always the same, they change every day. Thats why it's important to watch the charts and see when several things all line up at the right times and tides. @@indeeponthedeltawithstevec5997 Thanks Steve! I just remember looking up and moon was over head and then checking tide chart and it was opposite.... I think the key learning is that the days 2-6 days pre New or Full moon and post those phases can often time increase ur odds. there are other factors such as water temp, clarity, barometric pressure etc... but in the end Solunar phases are just indicator that you "could" have a better day. There is no real "science" that proves whether or not a day is better or not. Its still just a theory. However, that theory does indeed help you determine whether or not u can use it to help your day.

@@lazeronu I think your catching on. The important thing is you are looking at the charts. As you put more and more time on the water you will see patterns and you will be better prepaires to plan your days on the water.

What you are saying is not accurate the highest gravitational pull on the earth from the moon for the tides is when the moon is closest to the earth which has nothing to do with a full moon

Thanks for the comment Josh. As I understand both the full and new moon produce max. gravitational pull in turn resulting in higher tides with the highest tides coming during the spring. Am I close?
