Three years later now. I have 11 moringa trees. I just cut 7 of them back but instead of chop and drop, I run the stuff through a chipper which I think makes much more sense when trying to feed vegetables. Chop and drop is fine for long lived trees but short lived things like veggie crops get much more out of mulched moringa which will decompose very quickly.

I've always believed that this very tree is the answer for a quick growing natural resource to rebuild the health of the dead soil out here in the Mojave desert!!! ;-)
@natureboy64104 жыл бұрын
@@oftheforest6572 I've got over 2,000 moringa seeds, 3 varieties, hundreds of other annual and perennial, food and medicinal plant seeds. Some bare bones, basic resources. The teaching and guidance of several generations, as well as a long life time of trials and errors, to help along the way, to hopefully build my third, and final, intensive grow farm/ranch to not just meet the families basic needs, but to, once again, overflow into the surrounding small communities and food banks, and touch and bless as many as possible. If I can just catch a break, to get the ball rolling once more. This is how I was taught to pay it forward.
@natureboy64104 жыл бұрын
@@oftheforest6572 Kinda funny you should suggest that. I had some folks recommend the same basic thing a while ago, starting a channel and something called go fund me. I'm not to up on technology. More towards nature and its gifts that we've been given. Guess that's why that old gypsy lady dubbed me Natureboy, when I was little.

Loving these videos. Don't stop after 30! Tried the anaerobic compost tea with some fruit scraps, weeds, water, and torn paper and a few days later there was an insane amount of flies swarming in and around it! Ended up tipping it over into the garden and mulching over it.

Moringas are literally immortal where i am from(Jamaica) we tried cutting some even in the root,tried burning,hot composting etc. they still resurrect like weeds out of the ground lol. be careful where you put them because if they are at the wrong place,they will not die no matter what you do. anyway seeing that they are nitrogen fixers and seem to have every nutrient known to man i am thinking of using them as a NPK fertilizer component for my composts. this video confirms some things.

I use moringa as a tea on my plants. Doesn't the moringa leaves decompose before the root can use them? But I would think it would still be a great mulch. I'm interested to see if your moringa leaves decompose before being able to give the roots nutrients

Did comfrey do good in your N Fl place. We just got some moringa but I was thinking about adding comfrey too.
@davidthegood8 жыл бұрын
No. It did poorly. People would say "I grew some great comfrey at my house". Anytime I asked them how they grew it, they would tell me they kept it in a nice bed regularly watered with lots of fertility. That's not the way comfrey is supposed to grow. It's supposed to be a weed! Unless I took constant care of them, they were not happy. That said, wilder forms are supposed to do better. Bocking 14 is lousy. If you grow it, grow it for the medicinal qualities - not as an easy chop and drop.

Yes, but in my testing it does quite poorly in the warm weather of Florida, and here in the tropics I'm sure that trend holds. It was great in Tennessee, but here I grow moringa and Tithonia diversifolia to fill the niche comfrey did up there.

Agreed. First cold snap and poof dead Moringa. I grow some in a pot indoors and we add snippets to salads is the best I can do. I will probably treat Moringa as an annual and reseed every year. Dry some of the crop and chop and drop the balance for soil improvement. Thanks for the suggestion.

David The Good I agree with you. I’ve got heaps of them growing so use the abundance that I don’t harvest to eat fresh or dry, for mulch around fruit trees and for chook forage. On the fruit trees, as the moringa doesn’t have an invasive root system, I have it planted quite close...to chop and drop.
