Quite a few people use new dslr as webcam. This old one is limited by USB 2.0 so transfer speeds are slow.. even though image quality is clear. It's nice giving old tech some use.

Thanks alex! Can I use my Canon EOS 50D as a webcam considering that I have a capture card? I own an Elgato HD60S+. Do you know if the EOS50D have a clean hdmi out? I know this is 40D that you’re using but you might have some insight. i can’t see any info anywhere

hey so how did you get on with this as a webcam did it overheat after a while or was it power saving, maybe even the screen live view was the culprit?

I think it would possibly get hot.. maybe overheat (I think your guess is good about the screen live view). It's interesting that they allow this on expensive dslr cameras.. but again.. the 40d isn't officially supported.

who still has the webcam utility installer for 60D? It's not there in their canon website anymore

You are correct, Canon has decided to take advantage of streamers and now to get the Webcam Utility you have to pay a subscription. I think I still have it on my drive at home, but it no longer is available for free as it once was.
