39:16 I hear this a lot from chess analysts: when the eval is +3 they will say it's like a whole minor piece, but the engine will evaluate a minor piece up as +4 to +5 (e.g. take a knight out of the starting position and check Stockfish), presumably because it sees not only the material advantage, but also how much more advantage the side will gain from best play by using that material advantage.
@sistemann12342 жыл бұрын
There is no “material advantage” aside from the advantage you get from using that material advantage.
@timothyLucasJaeger2 жыл бұрын
@@sistemann1234 Maybe i could have phrased it better? What i mean is that if we are up a knight now, the computer will see how in 20 (or however many it can see) moves we will also, say, win 2 pawns (by virtue of using the extra knight) so it will put the eval at +5 instead of +3. The additional advantage obtained over the next 20 moves doesn't need to be a material one, of course. It could instead be positional/strategic advantage.
@prussia92552 жыл бұрын
It's kind of arbitrary in that the better the computer/higher the depth, the greater the advantage given by the engine will be. In reality a perfect engine would just evaluate the starting position down a knight as purely winning.
@timothyLucasJaeger2 жыл бұрын
@@prussia9255 Assuming, of course, that it's actually winning. All evidence we have points to that conclusion, but, lacking a perfect engine (strong solution), no one really knows that.
@samiesta99962 жыл бұрын
It's all relative to how you use the pieces. I have seen engines give only a +1.6 or 1.8 after winning a whole piece.

You seem to be drinking from the type of mug that holds approximately 1/3 litre of liquid. Let's say you drink 2,5 cups of tea every day. 365 × 5/6 = 304.something litres a year. Which, by the way, is very similar to my consumption.

One of those weird situations. I agree, but I've learned to not just "do the nice thing" because I want to be nice. I granted so many misclicks, leading to me losing, when none of my misclick requests are ever accepted. It's driven me to the point that I both grant and ask nothing. It's really a shame people suck so bad. I really did grant so many misclick requests and was granted none in return. I cant justify being kind and understanding if no one else will be. That just gives away rating. I can't afford to be kind if no one else is.
