What is the first layer?

The first layer is a piece of tulle, the second layer is the mylar, then the third layer is another piece of tulle. We call it a mylar sandwich :) Tulle is available in most craft stores.

I am new to embroidery, is mylar the gift wraping paper we use for gift?
